    Field Coil LF

    Folks,

I'm on the quest for drawings of field coil 15's I guess the size is irrelevant . What I would like to know is , How they work ? 2 hours googled and nothing ... Do I have to know a funny handshake
to be privy to such info ?

I saw some and fell in love with the whole engineering aesthetic .... Just beautifully crafted and from the info I have managed to glean , the sound is pretty special too !

I'm hoping someone can direct me to some informative reading ... AND PICTURES

    TIA , Rich

The last Field coil 15" I saw was over 40 years ago!

It was in the Hi-Fi that my dad bought in 1948, long gone now. It was coaxial with a 5" tweeter.
My JBL D140F was the cause of it's demise!

Just saw the thread. Clark's link pretty much covers my take on things, but if you have any specific questions richluvsound I'll be happy to try and answer. As to basic operation, a coil of magnet wire fed a direct current energizes the magnetic circuit. Most early speakers used field coils as high energy permanent magnet materials were not available until after WWII. Many enthusiasts feel that this old technology still has a lot to offer.
