    L250 or XPL 200

Not for apperance, but sound quality, would you chose a pair of L250's or a pair of XPL 200's? I am not asking about 250 ti's or XPL 200A's, although you can provide a second answer as to the best of all 4 options.

    Thanks,
    Scott

I thought they were all XPL200A's.
". . . as you have no doubt noticed, no one told the 4345 that it can't work correctly so it does anyway."—Greg Timbers

The XPL200 used the 095Ti midrange transducer which had aluminum wire, a walnut cabinet, and the UHF had a 0 dB and +2 dB switch.

The XPL200A used the 093Ti midrange transducer which had copper clad aluminum wire, a black lacquer finish, and the UHF had a -2 dB and 0 dB switch.

I have both L250 and XPL200. Stock, I'd say the L250 has a slight edge.

The stock L250 has superior bass and LF extension, superior midbass, and decent mids and highs.

The stock XPL200 has okay bass, fair midbass, superior midrange, and dazzling, clear highs.

Once I got hold of a DX-1 external crossover with XPL200 cards in it, then things changed in the XPl200's favor. The bass is much improved. The 12' woofers really came alive with power and authority, and the mid bass tightened up and became cleaner and more powerful. The mids and highs were even better than before.

The L250 still competes on the LF extenions, and the midbass is still vry strong, but the top two drivers are clearly outclassed, and the total L250 package can't keep up with a DX-1 supercharged XPL200.

Yeah with a DX-1 in the mix it really changes things. The XPL's are quite nice biamped. Doing a CC Biamp network on the L250 Ti's like the Jubilees also changes things quite a bit.
The best in my mind would be a biamped XPL-250 version with either a 108H or a 2108A or H, Some day.

Thanks for the info guys. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Is it possible to get a used DX-1 and cards, or is it as hard to find as a BX-63A?

Unfortunately they are much harder to find than the BX-63

True enough. Greg Timbers said the one he built for me earlier this year was "the last one out of the closet," which makes me one lucky man.

Rob, do I recall correctly that you had the specs and/or schematics for the XPL200 cards, though?

    Hello Doug

They are on the Forum. Passadena had the originals for various systems and there are others in various DX-1 threads. I built cards for mine and did a thread for that as well and linked a couple of threads to it. There are also posted schematics for the entire DX-1 if you were inclined to try to build one.

Thanks. I'm hoping this gives elshout a direction to go if he wants to seek it.
