2445J - different versions?

Does anybody know the difference between these two drivers - both should be 2445J's but as you can see one has a conical shape at the throat end and the other is the "normal" shape that I have seen on any pictures on this site.
The "normal

"Conical" both pionting up

"Conical" onepointing up - one down

Is there any difference besides the shape?

Uh... one is upside down? I see no difference... perhaps I'm blind?

I think it's 2 different sets of drivers. The first set is one up/one down with "snout", the second set are both up with gradual taper from mounting flange to rubber donut. If I'm seeing it correctly.

...these are definately different drivers. One has a factory mounting gasket and one does not. Also one is pointing to the sky and one is pointing to earth's center.

...other than that, they look identicle to me.

...don't drop these on your feet; they are really heavy.

Well the first picture is the "official" 2445J and the second and third are pictures taken of a set that i am thinking about buying.
Sellers claims they are 2445J but has anybody seen them looking like this?
Unfortunately I am unable to visit seller to see them first so therefore I was hoping that someone here knew if the 2445J had been made in two versions perhaps depending on manufacturing date or something else.
The back end look identical to me.
Still hoping for someone to enlighten me.

Is it just me, or does anyone recall looking into a 2445 and seeing the phasing plug SO clearly??? The JBL mesh screen is always so fine that peering down the throat does not avail such a clear picture.

Also, I don't remember seeing any 2445 with gold colored push-on terminals. Mine all have nickel colored terminals.

I am just saying there are a couple differences between the picture you are showing and all of the 2445's I have here.

Very GOOD eyes Scotty. Yeah , here we have EQUAL but un-identical identical model number drivers.

I have also never seen a JBL driver that you could look down the throat and see the phase plug so clearly either.

And I have no idea about whether this model had design changes, or outer body changes. but they do appear different in some ways.

Where is 4313B? He might have an answer to this one!

The 2nd/3rd set of photos look (to me) like clones with JBL stickers on them... even the
phase plug looks wrong ... 2447 has the mesh away from the phase plug a bit (see pic
where it's in plane with the gasket), but I don't think the 2445/6 series did.



There was a company that used to make poor JBL-looking drivers... Audio-something?
I can't remember right now.

You know Grumpy i'm going with what you say! COUNTERFEIT JBL DRIVERS! Makes sense to me, because in ALL the years I have been using JBL it's products are consistent in design, and looks, and IF they DO remodel or redsign a driver THEY make A BIG deal about it, and ANNOUNCE THE HELL OUT OF IT!

And, besides that? I saw a CHINESE COUNTERFEIT CLONE of a Crown Macro Tech 5000VZ a few years ago.

Those are knockoff's produced by a Taiwanese company ( or Paudio in thailand ). There are at least 3 variations that I can remember. It was fun to see them in the "C" hall basement at the NAMM show along with the knockoff crown amps, fender guitars and leslie speakers.

If someone put JBL stickers on them, it's fraud and goes for the reputation of the seller too. anybody with internet could check.

The first gen 2445 used the same bakelite phase plug as the 2440. later models are made of cast aluminum. They all have the same outside appearance.

Under normal light, with the stock screen, the phase plug on the 2" or 1" JBL drivers isn't easy to see. They are visible on the 1.5' drivers however.

Thank you all for helping me clearing this I knew this was the right place to ask..

I think seller is dealing with other kinds of secondhand PA gear so perhaps he does not know they are fakes.
I will go on and find some real JBL's (I have a couple of 2397 horns that needs a driver)

Really? You can't use Google and enter "2445J" and "JBL"?

The -very- first hit shows $150-200/ea (a bit less than the cost
of a new JBL diaphragm). Watch ebay for a day or two.

With the rubber magnet cover, they also make great doorstops
