    Need Xover advice 2206H & 2426J

Need Xover advice 2206H & 2426J w/ 2344 horn . I looked at the crossover from the SR4702X. Uses a 2425H HF driver. I have the 2426J, I am sure the top end of this crossover would need to be tweaked. Did JBL make a speaker with the 2206H and 2426J that I could "borrow" a crossover design from ?

See N200T3 constructed and discussed in recent pages of the "Quick & Dirty 4430's" thread. Giskard suggests how it might be modified for "16 Ohm" HF drivers there. Haven't tried it yet, but I mean to soon.

3110A or 3120A will work, but they won't provide the additional boost you'll need in the last octave using 2344A horns. Switching to either PTF or PTH waveguides instead will provide better HF extension with those crossovers (31X0A), but if you want to go that route, let me try them again with 2426J before you commit. I've been using LE85's.

Consider new "H" diaphragms as an option, as well....

    PTF PTH ...... WTF ???

A little help on these acronyms. I know what the last one means

    Thatsa PT-F1010HF in my avatar.

    PT-H used here with 2206:

So, do you have your horns yet? If so, as you suggest, tweaking the SR4702X crossover may be your best choice.

Here's what you're looking for, tho:

    Hi L/15/T

    - I'd suggest getting the lower impedance (H) diaphragms for use with those 2344s.

    - You need those lower impedances ( in the UHF range ) to pull the needed voltage from the amplifier / to have the best chance / at balancing the UHF levels to the midband frequencies of the 2206H woofer .

    - FWIW ( as a learning exercise ) : - Choose the Horn Section portion of the passive for the 4430 ;
& Rework the values - to support the higher impedance of the "J" diaphragm.

    (i) Meaning; you rescale the Capacitors ( down in uf size )
(ii) and rescale the value of the inductors ( up in mH size )
(iii) and replace the 8 ohm Lpad with a 16 ohm,
(iv) and double the "R" values for all the resistors that follow the Lpad ,

    - For this exercise; leave out the 30 ohm pot. and the inline inductor ( L1 ) from the UHF circuit .

-This exercise will demonstrate why the extra 3db (of UHF) that the "H" diaphragm pulls ( from the amp ) is important for obtaining good UHF response in all passive networks that service CD horns.

What is the big difference with these new PTH and PTF horns ? Are they CD type ? Is the 2344 a CD type of horn ?
Are there any inherent flaws with CD horns ?

What is the big difference with these new PTH and PTF horns ?
    - I don't have any of these horns to study. I'd ask Zich the difference between the two .

    - From all appearances they both blend a larger percentage of planar ( called conical ) surfaces into the horn shape than past JBL designs. Previously / there was more curvature in the bell ( for LF loading ) with a tighter spray ( diffraction ) mechanism ( as in the 2344 ). These newer designs will load a compresson driver differently than the older style horns. Therefore they'll give response curves that require different approaches in crossover design .

    Are they CD type ?
    - It appears so , according to looser definations of the term .

Is the 2344 a CD type of horn ?
    - Yes

Are there any inherent flaws with CD horns ?
    - I'd suggest starting a new thread for a question like that ( unless you really want to hijack your own thread & severely change the original topic ).
