Is a high tempt coil for the 416-8b to increase the power handling
I'm not aware of aftermarket high temperature coils for the 416-8B. Even if you were to find or build one, I'm not sure that it would be of much benefit. Coil temperature handling is only one factor in overall power handling. The beauty of the 416 design is that it is a very high efficiency driver with a low X-max and underhung coil geometry that is very linear. By pumping more power into the driver, even though the coil could handle it, would mean that the X-max (maximum forward and back cone travel) would be increased. This can cause the coil to bottom out. Even before bottoming out, you would be pushing the coil outside of the gap so that it would no longer be an underhung geometry - losing the advantage of that design. Further, you would be pushing the suspension into regions of non-linearity adding distortion. This is why both Altec and JBL developed brand new drivers with new motors and cone assemblies when they went for higher power applications in the 1980's.
