    Great woodwork, as always

These horns got my interest, especially using them with 2451 drivers. I know you havn´t got any measurement equipment, but has anyone else measured them by now?
Have you just build a pair for yourself or have other forum-members had the chance to enjoy these beauties as well?

I used to own a larger version of these horns (2" throat). I wish I took measurements at the time. They were used with JBL 2441 w/ Be diaphragms. I also owned a pair of Westlake-like smith horns. To me, I enjoyed the smith-horns more.

Woody's workmanship was second to none. These are not easy horns to build (though I've see your project thread and you certainly possess the skills). If I had the talent to be able to build something like this, I think I would go with the Smith Horns route (again - that is just based on my non-audiophile experience).

    Thanks for the complements.
I regretted selling my smaller horns and have decided to build another pair using either teak or Indonesian walnut that I have just purchased. My latest plan is to do an array system with the vertical horn using the 2450SL drivers. I may decide to build a jig system like I have for the A-290's instead of the brute force belt sander technique.

    Hi Woody,

It's my opinion that if you're going to orient the horn vertically one doesn't need the Yuichi fins installed.

OTOH, I do feel ( based on JBL's own designs ) that one should constrict/restrict the initial throat section ( as is seen in this cross-section of the H9800 ).

While the width ( of the restricted throat isn't shown ) , it looks to be @ 1".

The salient feature here is to include some form of restriction within this area .

    Thought I should say something.

The 1400 Array horn goes from 1.500” down to 0.850”.

I agree, no fins. Let the HF narrow in the vertical.

    Barry.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

    Thanks Barry! for those numbers.

    Woody,
Here's a polar ( of the H9800 courtesy of POS ) showing why this sort of horn turned sideways has such strong imaging capabilities .
    - ignore the mis-labeled name in the pics bottom left corner

Here's another ( showing one reason why the MTM "Special-Project" was ham-strung from inception > IMHO ).

    Me too please

    Hi Woody,

Please put me on the list of people You might sell Smith or Tad style horns to.

Guess that would make a repeat offender. Just got semi retired and finally have time again
    to enjoy the JBL Hobby.

Thanks to John W for his creation as well.
