    ebay.ca/JBL-375-WE-594-field-coil-A594WVL-NEW

Bidding ended no sale. The coil bobbin looks pretty skimpy which probably over heats__the seller claims the driver sounds better after he voice coil gets hot. Well, The main problem is that this "Ebay.ca/JBL-375-WE-594-field-coil-A594WVL-NEW etc'' is not A JBL 375 nor is it A Western Electric 594-A. They have been around for a while in a permanent magnet format. The first consideration is the resale-aka: "bail out" value, and there is no warranty, & " no returns allowed terms." The JBL drivers have massive bodies to provide an exellent platform for their 4 inch diaphragm to function from. This does make a smoother sounding driver. The German driver is a far cry from the Western Electric 594-A which presents a perfect mass break corner freqency at 7,500 Hz rolling off precisely at 6 db/octave well beyond 15 kHz which comes up perfectly flat with a simple 1st order RC "tilt-up" in the driving amplifier.

The 594-A has a large radius "half Roll" surround suspenssion designed to minimize the circomferential motional tension in the half roll construction, essentially free of extraneous vibrating modes that "oil can" which would impart extraneous artifact modes in the diaphragm dome--I can atest to the superb artifact freedom in the 594-A.

If you prefer a 375/2440 field coil driver, it is perfectly straight forward to modify a JBL 375 or 2440 & you can silver plate the internal magnetic parts and add an aluminum shorting or copper ring like the newer JBL drivers while you are at it. There are plenty of original JBL 375 and 2440 cores avilable, & some drivers in perfect condition, if you avoid the Ebay crapshoot, and buy from reliable dealers like Dave at: [email protected] , who also sells genuine JBL original 375/2440 daphragms.
