PT800 - adding 80Hz HP crossover for safety?

Call me paranoid, but I am somewhat uncomfortable always remembering to avoid sending full range signals to my PT800 satellites. I have nightmares of one setting on my pre (a Denon, I've done it before) getting messed up and hearing a bad noise as the 8" driver destroys itself.

What if one added a passive 80Hz HP crossover in prior to the main network? Basically replacing the 130Hz one that is part of the system while docked to the PS1400?

Would this cause any problem interactions with the main crossover or result in further problems if a 80Hz HP signal was sent native?

This of course assumes that the PT800's are not used docked and never have the 130Hz PS1400 crossover used. Just trying to make sure the PT800's are protected for use with a high power full range signal. Seems like cheap insurance...

I think it would take sustained use with full range signals to do damage, or VERY high levels.

Fair enough. Seems not as bad as I thought after reading that.

I am paranoid using the M1.5T with them, as I'm fairly certain it can pretty much blow them up in a snap. But the alternative is going back to the Denon's power. So I'm stuck choosing between the Denon's 110 rms or the Carver's 350+ rms.

In the end I think the M1.5T is going to follow the L7's around.

There is no more reason to put a high pass filter on the PT800 as there was on the L212 side panel. They function the same. There is no need for a high pass protection filter.

Yep, I've fed both those models full range signals, never a problem.
