What was in a JBL S1 system?

I'm familiar with the vintage S7 and S8 systems, but what was the S1 comprised of?

    Hi JRL,

welcome to the forum....(seems that you are No. 800 )

I think to remember that the S1 is from the Aquarius series from the mid 1980s I believe that this S1 is the additional subbass for the earlier S2 (Aquarius) in the same enclosure.
If yes... it houses a 108H bass woofer. The S2 got as a special 4 tweeter behind the slot of the top.

    Hope this is correct..?

The S1 kit consisted of the LE 14 and 175DLH. It shows up in the 1974 catalog here:

    Regards
    Don

P.S. After looking at your profile, I have an offer. I'll trade what you sell for a living for what I sell for a living. Unfortunately I don't sell anything.

    Systems ...

Sometimes confusing! A subject that has fascinated my for 35 years though...

Here are 13 different three-digit numbered systems, from the 1957 catalog:

    http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...1957/page8.jpg

    eventually, a 14th system 032, was introduced using the D123, LE20, and LX2.

    The S systems are scattered among the 1964, 67, 74, and 79 catalogs, most often sorted by cabinet and not listed together. I have found S1 (just what Don said it was), S4, S4, S7 (S7-2 and S20-1 are later variants), S8 (S8-2), S11, S12, S14, two completely different S15s, S16, S18, S22-1, S23-1, S24-1, S25-1, S200-1, and S300-1.

Then there are the S-109 Aquarius and the S-1, S-2, S-3, S-4 Signature series - but those are complete speakers, not driver kits. These have dashes, so S-1 is not the same as S1 - but I doubt that's actually significant since they used S15 twice...

    With More To Come

    From Paul Joppa

    "eventually, a 14th system 032, was introduced using the D123, LE20, and LX2. "

Also availiable were the 082, 105 and 182 systems from my 6/59 catalogue # SC506.

Looks like a total of 17 systems availiable along with the custom variant versions that were concocted by discriminating audio enthueists. And perhaps even more now that we have opened pandoras speaker box.
