bugs me too. to the point where I turned off the HT receiver extra DSP processing
in my prev system as the video was what got 'ahead'. Guitar Hero with a sound/vid
    offset was the worst.

keep in mind that shortening a cable 16ft only delays the signal tens of nanoseconds
(if a wide bandwidth cable, matched impedance and load and there are no other
    processing shenanigans)

it was cobbled together POS cable and I was reaching for a reason to explain the mis-synch*. Had wanted to move gear and shorten lines anyway.

Never had a TV monitor where you can adjust the audio delay in milliseconds before and the owners manual is not a big help.

The old "exploring around the settings" routine has brought up lots of tweakable adjustments. Things that I've never thought of .....

    Bridge of Spies
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3682448/

Spielberg has developed a talent for turning good stories to boring.

In the cold war, a lawyer, James B. Donovan is recruited by the CIA and involved in an intense negotiation mission to release and exchange a CIA U-2 spy-plane pilot, Francis G. Powers. The pilot was arrested alive after his plane was shot down by the Soviet Union during a mission and stays in the company of a KGB intelligence officer, Rudolf Abel, who was arrested for espionage in the US. Written by Gusde

over simplified , NO grit. It was like a Disney retelling. rated 4 of 10

    Lost Highway
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116922/?ref_=nv_sr_1

a favorite, tho I still don't understand it*

After a bizarre encounter at a party, a jazz saxophonist is framed for the murder of his wife and sent to prison, where he inexplicably morphs into a young mechanic and begins leading a new life.

BUT, as with many David Lynch movies, the ride is good enough w/o comprehension.

    * from IMDB

    What is this movie about?

One of the most accepted theories (since Lynch or Gifford never admitted any explanation to the strange going-ons in the movie) is that the whole movie takes place in Fred Madison's mind. Fred is a man who has either hired someone (The Mystery Man) or has himself committed the murders of his wife Renee and her lover, Dick Laurent. After this, he is put on death row, and in order to relieve himself of the guilt, creates alternative realities to cope. Note: the highway appears every time one of these realities starts.

The first reality is realistic. Fred probably was a jazz musician who was paranoid about his wife cheating. Tapes show up that slowly bring him back to the reality that he did something bad to his wife. The two cops brought in to investigate the tapes are actually the cops that arrested him for his wife's murder. The truth eventually comes through too much and shatters this reality. He winds up on death row again.

Another theory is that the jail scenes in the middle are indeed reality. He refuses to remember what really happened and this is his way of remembering how things were before his trial (which echoes back to his line about how he likes to remember things his own way, not necessarily how they happened). After he is sentenced to death, his condition deteriorates more to the second rationalization.

The second reality is in response to the first one not working. He now morphs himself into Pete Dayton, a young guy who exists in a fantasy world, a world where his wife is alive but as someone else. Things are changed, including who dies (Andy is killed. In the script, it is made clear that while Fred is on death row, Andy is alive and well). The persona of his wife is no longer aloof but insatiable; Pete has an active social life, as opposed to Fred's isolation. Ultimately, the fantasy incarnation of his wife tells him "you'll never have me," shattering the illusion. Reality sets back in and he once again is sent on the lost highway to create another reality.

Another theory is that he is killed in the electric chair at the end, which explains its frenzied editing of the final shot.

Co-writer Barry Gifford summarized the film as being "Double Indemnity meets Orpheus and Eurydice," the classic film noir about marital infidelity crossed with the Greek myth concerning a man repeatedly trying and ultimately failing to retrieve his lover from Hades.

So after enjoying Mullholland & Lost Hiway , checked to see what else
    of David Lynch's was available.
Checked out "Eraserhead" , but having trouble getting in to it.

Also got "Twin Peaks". Didn't know what to expect. I don't even know how
to describe it. Very pro acting/directing/production etc. More like a movie than
broadcast TV show. Don't know how this ever made it on the air

It does showcase much of the Pacific NorthWest with character plays on local names. The logging community, regional humor and dress is certainly authentic for Oregon tho the show is set in Washington. It's so unpredictable, that I have NO idea what's coming next. Usually a scene is over and I've got a big chuckle.

here's an IMDB review that kinda sums it up.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098936/reviews?ref_=tt_urv

Everyone's Talking About It. The Talk Is Good and Bad. It Definitely Strikes a Nerve.
    Author: tfrizzell from United States
    31 October 2003

Stunning and explosive, completely misunderstood by many when it ran from 1990-1991 and definitely trail-blazing for the art of television production, "Twin Peaks" is one of those could-have-been, should-have-been television series that ended up being remarkable anyway. A teenage girl (Sheryl Lee) is murdered. A strange FBI detective (Kyle MacLachlan) is brought in to solve the mystery as the local police just cannot cope with the crime.
Strange situations continue to pop up all over the landscape of the titled Pacific Northwestern town though and it becomes sadly apparent that the crime will likely never be solved.
Side-stories galore confuse and intrigue and the viewer is left wondering, "Does this have anything to do with the initial crime?". Then just when you think the puzzle is about solved, total chaos strikes with whacked dream sequences that make you question your own sanity.

What is really happening in the town and do we really want to know or are we happier letting the mystery suck us in? "Twin Peaks" was created by David Lynch (arguably the finest American film-maker, along with Martin Scorsese, living today) and over two very abbreviated seasons (only 29 total episodes) television reached an age that may never be experienced again. At the time many (perhaps myself included) did not know what to make of the show and even more panned it completely. The fact that the series did not really end the way it should have is sad, but in another way it just adds to the legends and myths involved here. There were eight writers on this series and a mind-blowing 15 different directors (Lynch did some of the work and even Diane Keaton got an opportunity to add to the program). Performers like Ray Wise, Piper Laurie, Joan Chen, Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Russ Tamblyn and Madchen Amick appear, disappear and re-appear so frequently that you become confused as to what their roles in the show truly are. Monumental, gigantic, legendary, interesting, dominant and definitely thought-provoking, "Twin Peaks" is one of those television shows that amazes and dazzles with its highly unique brand of commentary.
Followed by a theatrical movie ("Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me") in 1992 that was made to answer the questions presented throughout the program, it was also sadly misunderstood by most in the viewing public (even being rubbished by some who loved the series). A real gem in the history of television art. 5 stars out of 5.

    (SW again)
I gave up trying to follow the cast and subplots and am just along for the ride at this point.

    Sweet Dreams (1985)

    .
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090110/

    Storyline

Patsy Cline was the first female solo artist to be elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Thirty-two years after her untimely death in a plane crash in Tennessee, her "Greatest Hits" album sold over six million copies. Loved by her fans today as much - if not more - than she was at the height of her fame, the life, the loves and most of all the voice of Patsy Cline is legendary. This film tells the story of the passionate, fun-loving, soft-spoken, loud-living life of one of country music's - and one of popular music's - greatest singing stars. This film covers the years 1956 through 1963, from her rise to fame and the top of the charts through TB talent shows and country bars - through her turbulent marriage to Charlie Dick and the demands of touring which would lead to the fatal plane crash. Written by HBO Home Video

BACKGROUND: I don't really care for "Country & Western Music" , (non-related aside) = especially "Modern Country". Also not really fond of biopics.

This was a biopic of a C&W singer. Recipe for a bad review ?? Nope.

Always enjoyed Jessica Lange and really, really enjoy Patsy Cline's voice/songs. Thankfully Jessica did not sing, but just lip syched the real songs. They sounded stellar. The biopic stuff sucked, and I FF'ed through that.

On balance, I'd rate it 7 of 10 , if it were just the songs and Jessica just standing there, I'd make it 10 of 10.

So I really enjoyed season 1 of the TV series. Then season 2 it started to fall apart. ABC cancelled season 3 and so the viewer was left hanging with no resolution from the S2 ending.

In 1992 , Lynch made a full length film to supposedly answer those questions.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_P...e_Walk_with_Me

I located it and viewed last night. YUCK. Had to FF through most of this horror film wannabe.

This may be a new low in my ratings history. 1 of 10

    weirdness just for weirdness's sake...

    Release
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me received a reaction quite the contrary to the television series. The film was entered into the 1992 Cannes Film Festival,[13] where it was greeted with booing from the audience and met with almost unanimous negative reviews. According to Roger Ebert from The Chicago Sun-Times, the film was met with two extremes, one side being overall positive, while the other side being the exact opposite.[14] Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, who was also in attendance, said in a 1992 interview, "After I saw Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me at Cannes, David Lynch had disappeared so far up his own ass that I have no desire to see another David Lynch movie until I hear something different. And you know, I loved him. I loved him.

Saw this one years ago. 7/10 is about right. I've always liked PC's songs, many of them anyway. I've been in a couple of country bands to help out a friend or uncle that needed a temp drummer but C&W is not my thing. Haha. Boring as hell to play as a drummer, too. There was a time when not many C&W bands didn't cover "Walkin' After Midnight" or "Crazy", for example. Formulaic but Patsy sung them very well of course in her unique way, and before we had ProTools. I hate Modern Country. Phony, over-commercialized tripe that I can't get within earshot of.

    From Russia with Love

    .
OK, we've all seen this at least once. I'm not going to repeat the storyline or rate it.

I've viewed it on beta, VHS & DVD. This time it was on BluRay. Also new, it was viewed on my new 40 inch 4K monitor. Sure, it wasn't filmed in HiDef or 4K ... it was done in 1963 tech.

The monitor upscales to 4K and what a great job. Looks like it was filmed last week. Sharp, clean and high detail. Colors were perfect . Would make me guess that the vid was recorded on digital.
I don't know how those little built-in speakers do so well (my AVR is having issues right now) . The ads call it DTS and 5.1 , and sound is really nice.

Anyway , it was a much, much nicer experience than I've ever had before with this film.

    Idiocracy (2006)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

Officer Collins has been spearheading one of the US Army's most secretive experiments to date: the Human Hibernation Project. If successful, the project would store its subjects indefinitely until they are needed most. Their first test subject - Joe Bowers - was not chosen for his superiority. Instead, he's chosen because he's the most average guy in the armed services. But scandal erupts after the experiment takes place, the base is closed, and the president disavows any knowledge of the project. Unfortunately Joe doesn't wake up in a year, he wakes up in 500 years! But during that time human evolution has taken a dramatic down turn. After waking up, Joe takes a prison-assigned IQ test and finds that he's the smartest guy alive! Awaiting a full presidential pardon if he can solve one of the country's biggest problems - the dwindling plant population, Joe races against time to solve this problem. But in doing so he alienates half the country in the process! Can he make things right ... Written by halo1k

Idiocracy is a 2006 American satirical science fiction comedy film directed by Mike Judge and starring Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, and Dax Shepard. The film tells the story of two people who take part in a top-secret military hibernation experiment, only to awaken 500 years later in a dystopian society where advertising, commercialism, and cultural anti-intellectualism have run rampant, and is devoid of intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, and coherent notions of justice and human rights.

I saw it 3 years ago and found the humor kind of obvious and the plot far-fetched. I had no idea then that in 2016 it would turn out to be so prescient. (Which is very, very sad.)

    Spectre (2015)

    .
I've enjoyed the "007" movies for many years, even have the comps of the films themes music on LP . Awaited this newest one.

Long, boring, sleep inducing , terrible theme music , requires suspension of belief..

Many goofs, incoherent story ... from Craig to the director , almost everybody was "phoning it in" .... main love interest was the best thing in this hot mess.

    The Big Short (2015)

    .
Four denizens in the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s, and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight.

better than I expected....no reason to comment on the audio.
Steve Carrell is actually deeper than The Office boss Michael Scott was.

had read that the financial terms made the dialogue too difficult.
