Aquaplas paint

Can someone tell me were I can get the aquaplas paint like JBL use on the
JBL 435be driver. I have a pair of JBL 2435hpl but I want to try them with
aquaplas diaphragm.

While I'll welcome you to LHF, if you'll use the search function,this has been discussed many times. I looked at making a version of it from the high viscosity paste currently available from Blanchford Chemical; but frankly its too hard to reproduce it you cant get the same pigment volume concentration.

I've got this on my 2241H-1s...

It doesn't look like aquaplas, but it made the cones incredibly stiff, very easy to clean (windex and a rag), and added about 6oz of mass per driver (the cones just soak it up like no tomorrow... Took 5 coats)...

I wanted my 18s to hit hard as a coffin nail and the extra power to drive the weight wasn't an issue for me. In fact, that is exactly what I wanted and I got it. No complaints and holding up great for about 2 years now.

...plus... the purple color of the stock cones just offended me... Now they're nice and shiny black. Under the SR4719A "roadie grade" wire mesh grill, they look awesome.

6 oz = 170 gr , and for 2241 Mms=140gr
( I can expect that Mmd about less 120 gr, as Mair=rho/3*D^3 = 25gr), so You have added more then total cone mass including VC...."interesting"

DOH! You caught me... I was going with fluid volume, not weight. Now that you opened my eyes to my mistake, I'm not entirely sure how much mass was added. If someone has a stock 2241H to weigh down to the gram I'll pull one of mine and weigh it (not an enjoyable task). I'm curious to know myself.

Couldn't tell ya... I bought them as empty baskets and had brand new JBL cone kits installed in them and had the installing shop "aquaplas" them. According to him, he's done hundreds of drivers with that stuff for nightclubs were smoke permeation, and drunkenly spilled drinks, was an issue. Also, according to him, was the number of coats and fluid volume that was used for their treatment.

I can tell you that I didn't especially buy them for "sound quality" (though I feel that they sound nice, especially at moderate volumes... Moderate means less than bouncing clocks and pictures on the wall)... I bought them to move a boatload of air in a very violent way with no question about it at all. They fulfill that desire and then some. They play extremely hard and extremely loud. They are also a very different driver, in a very different application, than the OPs rig.

As an aside to that topic, I WAS rattling (honestly, bouncing is more appropriate) the pictures on the wall and all that jazz while watching "Oblivion" yesterday... LOTS of fun!

As a secondary thought... The stuff if plenty cheap enough and easy to apply (he just used a paint brush... If I had done it I would have probably used a sponge brush to reduce the brush marks, though he did do a very neat and tidy job of arranging the brush marks so they seems natural... It's a piece of stage gear so I really don't care too much about how the drivers look and you can't see the strokes behind the heavy mesh grill anyhow)... Maybe buy a $10 driver and it out yourself? Considering the value of the OP's original driver that might not be a bad course of action anyhow.

Through a few recent conversations, it's coming to my attention that I may be the most unorthodox guy here with some of the things I do to my JBLs... I may be "courageous" in some of my adventures, but they all have worked out great so far!
