    Tell me about my SVA1500's.

I bought some at a pawn shop for next to nothing, and have been using them with my Primare setup while I shop for some bigger towers.

They sound pretty good (not too thrilled with the mids, they seem a little restrained), but great bass for a bookshelf, and the highs are nice.

How do these speakers rate? Are they considered decent, or are they good?

    Thanks!

They're the smallest of the SVA Series, and they are the only surviving member as HT Series THX systems, albeit with different drivers in the horns, Ti instead of soft domes.

In the original iteration, it shakes out like this, IMO, using a 1500 as the baseline:

    SVA 1500 scores 1.
    SVA 1600 scores 2.
    SVA 1800 scores 5.
    SVA 2100 scores 8.

Again, IMO, an SVA with two 12" drivers and the 2100's 1.5" soft dome tweeter might have hit 10 on this relative scale.

They're bulky, boxy, and somewhat elementary in design, but the 1800 and 2100 varieties have been in my collection a number of years now.

Is that bass output you are rating them for? How do they stack up sound quality wise? I assume you like them as you own them.

That's over all sound quality on a relative scale, with the reference point being the SVA 1500 at "1" as the baseline.

Using the same relative scale for other JBLs I own or owned:

    SAT10 scores 0.25
    Creature scores 0.3
    SVA 1500 scores 1
    SVA 1600 scores 2
    LX300 scores 2
    L100 scores 4
    L3 scores 4
    S26 scores 4
    L60T scores 5
    E50 scores 5
    SVA 1800 scores 5
    EON10 scores 6
    XPL160 scores 7
    SVA 2100 scores 8
    EON15 scores 8
    L5 scores 9
    240Ti scores 10
    XPL200 scores 11
    4430 scores 11
    L7 scores 12
    Synthesis® S3M scores 12
    L250 scores 14
    S/2600 scores 16
    PS1400/PT800 scores 17
    Synthesis® SAM1HF/SAM2LF scores 20

    Of course it's all IMO.

    sooooo, if you set up a L7+ L5 system ..they wud best the Synthesis® SAM1HF/SAM2LF ??? (9+12=21 , 21>20)

the L7-L5 system takes only 4 speakers , is a lot cheaper and is "1" better

do ya know if I'm joking or not , Widg ?

Ha ha, you funny man! (click at your own risk) http://eppsnet.com/images/asian-guys.jpg

Trust me, if you put ten L5s in the room, it would still be a nine, and if you put L5s and L7s together against the SAMs it would be 10.5 to 20, not 21 to 20.

I like Wolf's logic, since I have two L7 pairs which gives me a score of 24...using his Oregonian math.

perhaps other koans may be found?

fine example of CalMath ...and look at what it has done for their state budget

not for too long, hopefully . adding value right now so next owner can appreciate more....mebbe I'll paint them fauxwood. (that will make them FAUXY)

OryMath is better than CalMath ...our state is in a smaller money hole.

Even if the non-JBL's only count for "1" ...I can break a hunnert.

By that type of additive math, 44 Bose cubes would be better.

Rather than using quantitative analysis, try qualitative.

    It's not 9+12=21.

    It's 9+12÷2=10.5

OTOH, I could be wrong. As has been pointed out, I do live in CA. It could be that the more speakers one throws together, the better they sound. You could bring your L7 and L5 pairs down, and I'll let you set them up next to the SAMs and we'll give a listen.

Weird, it works for me every time. Well, I don't want to get scolded by a moralizing moderator, so I can't post it here.

    One more try:
