The Johnny Otis Show, With Shuggie Otis, 1981, Alligator USA, AL 4726

A beat that just will not quit...
Listen to guitar solo by Shuggie and the vocals of Johnny Otis in "Don't deceive me": transmitts cool grandeur.
"Back in early 1950ies, there were a handful of musicians, singers , writers and arrangers who mixed swing jazz riffs, blues shouting, gospel harmonies and R&B drumming and came up with a new sound called "rock'n'roll". In Los Angeles, Johnny Otis was THE man.
The Johnny Otis Show, whether live on stage, on records, on radio or television, has meant good-time rockin' R&B music, great musicians, new songs, and a beat that just will not quit." (Cit.: liner notes on back cover)

Argent, Same, 1969, Epic USA, BN 26525

My idea was this- to form a personal dream group of musicians with not only experience and technical ability, but also the imagination, enthusiasm and mutual respect necessary to create something really worth listening to. (Cit.: Rod Argent on back cover)
Really worth listening after 50 years: i totally agree! So listen to the beautiful organ driven "The feeling inside" B2 and the jazzy "Freefall" B3.

Wasn't Rod Argent previously organist with The Zombies, who have had big success with Time Of The Season? This song contains an Hammond organ solo which could be considered as iconic.

    Best regards!

The Blackbirds, No Destination, 1968, Saga England, FID 2113

Hammond-driven psychedelic underground beat and jazzy space pop from Regensburg, Germany. Listen to the wonderful "No destination" A3. What superb recording dynamics!

Ian Hunter, Overnight Angels, 1977, CBS England, 81 993

I made an exception last week: i bought this one though somebody had mishandled the cover sleeve. It has been stained with tea, Coca Cola, or other undefinable dirty things. I wasn't able to resist that special mood of the songs of Ian Hunter. I took it! Great album with (what big surprise!) vinyl in nearly perfect condition. Earl Slick guitars! IMHO he is one of the greatest guitar players today. Honest, modest and shaped by The Blues. Listen to the majestic tribute to "Broadway" A4.

Then Play On (Expanded Edition) [Remastered]

    .
Fantastic album , fine remaster ...this is the 2013 edition, looking for the 2018 one now.

Then Play On was Fleetwood Mac s 1969 debut on Reprise. This expanded and remastered edition features the original U.K running order and track segues, with "One Sunny Day" and "Without You" making their first appearance on a CD issue of the album, as well as new liner notes by veteran rock journalist David Fricke and four bonus tracks, including the revered single "Oh Well Pt. 1," which boasts one of the great guitar riffs in rock history and has been covered by likes of Billy F Gibbons, Jimmy Page, and Tom Petty.

Fleetwood Mac was already a popular blues band in 1969 when they released Then Play On, the group s stellar third studio album. It was the first with guitarist-songwriter Danny Kirwan and ultimately its last with founding member Peter Green. The album s powerful mix of blues and rock includes standout tracks like "Rattlesnake Shake," "Searching For Madge" and "Coming Your Way." Rhino s re-mastered and expanded edition includes four bonus tracks originally released as singles: parts one and two of "Oh Well," "The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown)" and "World In Harmony," which is available on CD for the first time.

Michel Polnareff, Same, 1975, Atlantic France, 50 195

Alors, Michel, quel chagrin: tu as choisi les musiciens plus superbes, mais: qu'est-ce que tu as fait ici, quel resultat! Crap or not crap? Look at those studio cracks he employed on this album: Lee Ritenour, Steve Cropper, Andrew Gold, David Hentschel, Lee Sklar, Jim Keltner, Leah Kunkel, Jennifer Warnes and and...
In the mid 60ies Michel Polnareff made those wonderful French-English cooperations with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Big Jim Sullivan. Fancy cover art by Peter Palombi.
After this one, no wonder that Punk (music?) soon after had to harass the music scene...

Tai Phong, Same, 1975, WB France, 56 124

J.J. Goldman voc, Tai bass, Khanh guitars, Gardet keyboards, Caussarieu dr. Progrock from France. Weak point from the view of the listener of today: the vocals and the French tinted English pronunciation are questionable. B2 "Out of the night" is 11' 25" of fine European Mellotron progrock. Fancy cover art by Lang.

    this is probably why ...

Taï Phong is a bit of an oddity, as it is a French band founded by Vietnamese brothers Kahn and Taï Ho Tong. The sound is comparable to Camel, and Novalis, but the most telling description is 'France's answer to Barclay James Havest.'
