Paris, Big Towne 2061, 1976, Capitol England, EA ST 11560

    Underrated trio. A super group?
In retrospective Bob Welch was a great guitar player. Wasn't he a very important influence for Fleetwood Mac after Peter Green?
Underrated LP. Interesting songwriting. Glenn Cornick was the bass player in early Jethro Tull.
Listen to A2 "Big Towne, 2061".

Listen to instrumental version of "When a man loves a woman" A4.
    A masterpiece!

Caravan - In The Land Of Grey And Pink
    (1971, Deram/London)

great stuff, I don't listen to this enough. With the original lineup. A softer edge to the music than contemporary work by King Crimson or Soft Machine, but the same quirks and musical brilliance.

Woodentops, Giant, 1986, Rough Trade Germany, RTD 38

A bright spot in the darkness off the 80ies rock-pop-synthies-new wave music business.
Listen to the driving hypnotic "Get it on" A1.

Dave Mason & Cass Elliot, Same, 1971, Blue Thumb USA, BTS 8825

Underrated. Superb piano playing by Paul Harris (Manassas/SoutherHillmanFuray Band).
Somebody stupid has punched a hole into Dave....
Listen to the perfect vocal harmonies and a Hammond in Procol Harum-style in "Sit and wonder" B1.

The Paramounts, Whiter Shades Of R&B, 1983, Edsel England, ED 112

    Enjoyable pop history in mono!
This is the starting point of the psychedelic blues of Robin Trower and Gary Brooker. The 1964 Songs on side A are still in typical beat genre.
But the side B marks the take off of Procol Harum.
Listen to the guitar fills and soloing by Robin Trower in 1965 blues "Cuttin' in" B2. Superb Brooker vocals plus big orchestra and choir.
Listen to the powerful vocals by Gary in "You never had it so good" B3.
B4: Brooker as James Brown-shouter in R&B "Don't ya like my love?"
B5: Brooker sings Beatles-harmonies on "Draw me closer". Previously only available on French 1965 EP "Les Paramounts".
B6: Robin Trower plays Buddy Holly-rhythms on "Turn on your lovelight".
Funny psychedelic soul following after the famous Clapton/Cream (and of sure "Hard days night"!!) intro-chord, everybody knows:
B8 Mingus' "Freedom". This one was previously unissued. A nearly forgotten gem of Trower jamming with Brooker in Led Zeppelin-style at the swinging end of this great track. You may meet this sequence 4 years later in the middle of "Whole lotta love". Who has invented it???
Don't forget to remember the great B.J.Wilson!

Tucky Buzzard, Alright On The Night, 1973, Passport US, PPS 97001

Produced by Bill Wyman. Recorded with the Rolling Stone's mobile unit.
The blind spot: the weak lead vocals. Why didn't Bill Wyman notice it?
    Too many bottles.....

Charlie, No Second Chance, 1977, Polydor Germany, 2460 271

Beautiful vocal harmonies. Elaborate guitars. All winners no fillers.
Listen to majestic song A2 "Don't look back". Is it CSN&Y or BJH?
No, the cover foto tells us: this must be Charlie!
    Superb dynamics. Good German pressing.
    Underrated and forgotten.
