Various Artists - Sometimes A Great Notion original soundtrack
(1971, Decca)
No novel may have a more interesting opening passage than "Sometimes a Great Notion," which begins as Ken Kesey tracks the birth of a river:
"Along the western slopes of the Oregon Coastal Range ... come look: the hysterical crashing of tributaries as they merge into the Wakonda Auga River. ... The first little washes flashing like thick rushing winds through sheep sorrel and clover, ghost fern and nettle, sheering, cutting ... forming branches. Then, through bearberry and salmonberry, blueberry and blackberry, the branches crashing into creek, into streams. Finally, in the foothills, through tamarack and sugar pine, sh+ttim bark and silver spruce -- and the green and blue mosaic of Douglas fir -- the actual river falls 500 feet ... and look: opens out upon the fields."

1979 Holland CBS reissue with acceptable dynamics. Holland CBS pressings always were mass produced.
A song that drives shivers down my spine: A4 "Girl with no eyes". A forgotten gem!
Finally listen (once more) to B1 "Bombay calling": Deep Purple borrowed this one for their "Child in time" and didn't give any credits to La Flamme! Beautiful days for Deep Purple: astonishingly there was no juridical "ricochet"......

1975 USA pressing. Two tracks are missing on the original issues: "Be my baby" and "Angel baby". Because of juridical problems with Phil Spector? Does anybody know, on which vinyl record these 2 Lennon/Spector recordings are appearing?
The front cover foto shows Dr. Winston O'Boogie in the 60ies Hamburg's Star Club times: "You should have been there"!

Greg Lake R.I.P.
This debut of the newly arranged supergroup was produced by Greg Lake.
The only acceptable synthesizer playing in rock music ever (!) by Emerson.
Very good dynamics.
Listen to Greg Lake's vocals on A3 "Knife edge": "Only fear breaks the silence, as we all kneel, pray for guidance".

Fripp, McDonald, Lake, Giles. Who else?
Unmatched milestone.
"I fear tomorrow I'll be crying".

Listen to B3 "I believe in father Christmas". Schön!
And this song drives shivers down my spine: B6 "Show me the way to go home". Adieu Greg!
