Warren Zevon, Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School, 1980, Asylum USA, SE-509

On this album we may enjoy listening to the best Westcoast musicians: Lindley, Wachtel, Walsh, Sklar, Browne, Souther, Ronstadt, Frey, Henley, Marotta. Big fun in the recording studio Sound Factory, Los Angeles.
The guitar model Lindley plays is a National Glenwood 95, isn't it? Famous!

Ry Cooder, Why Don't You Try Me Tonight?, 1986, WB Germany, 240 864-1

The best of Ry Cooder till 1986. Who is the female singer on "Money Honey" from "Into the purple valley"? Gloria Jones? Sounds like Tina Turner, but there's no credits to her on original LP inlay.
    Chicken skin music........

A good german pressing. For Beatles aficionados.
A sad story about a band career and greedy managers. It ended with suicide by Pete Ham and Tom Evans. Grinded in music business......

Badfinger, Ass, 1973, Apple US, SW 3411

    Grinded between two producers.
Produced by Todd Rundgren. Afterwards remixed by Chris Thomas. Result? Listen to track B4 "I can love you".
Interesting guitar playing especially on track B5 "Timeless" and on Led Zeppelin-style track B1 "Constitution".
    Good US pressing.
    Underrated.

Chicago, Live in Concert, 1983, Capriole Germany, 462739, Club Edition

Recorded live 1969. Location? Day? Good German pressing for Club Edition.
Listen to track B1 "Liberation" with superb guitar solo by Terry Kath.
Writing error track A2. Wrong: "Purble song". Right: "Purples".

Wishbone Ash, Number The Brave, 1981, MCA England, MCF 3103

Powell/Wisefield/Upton with John Wetton vocals, bass and keyboards. Wetton was a good choice: listen to track B3, Wetton's "That's that". A swinging fast boogie.
Fine guitar work as usual and superb vocal harmonies "intoxicated" (liner notes!) by Claire Hamill.
    Good English pressing.
Underrated. This is a fine LP. What do you think about it?
O.K., track B1, a pop version of "Get ready" is not the yellow of the egg, as we say in German language. But the rest is all good clean fun.
Reviewers can't play guitar! So we should not believe in the reviewers! Hey, critics, this guitar playing is on high level. After 35 years the critics mostly are embarrassing. After 35 years we better believe in the work of the musicians. After 35 years the critics still can't play guitar.....

    The B-52's, Party Mix, 1981, Island Germany, 203 742-270

Overrated party group. Overrated by the critics! Don't believe in the critics.
It's not funny anymore after 35 years.
B-52's are not able to sing or play guitar or rocknroll. So are the critics......
After 35 years the critics still can't play guitar.
The B-52's are still boring ........

    OST, Absolute Beginners, 1986, Virgin Germany, 804 869955, 2LP

The title track by David Bowie simply is a great song with a dramatic development. Superb guitar intro hookline by Kevin Armstrong. Listen to the powerful baritone sax. Simply beautiful.
But also the other 21 tracks are very fine. Everything is swinging.
This is the original motion picture soundtrack on 2 LPs arranged by Gil Evans.
Listen to "Killer Blow" by Sade. The accoustic bass and the orchestra arrrangement sounds still great today.
All what Ray Davies wants is a "Quiet Life" on track A4: witty with the birds' twittering.
Gil Evans orchestra: "Va Va Voom", "Boogie Stop Shuffle", "Better git it in your soul", "Cool Napoli", "Absolute Beginners refrain".
Listen also to the 2 other tracks by David Bowie with big orchestra, "Motivation" and "Volare".
Funny, look at Bowie on inner foldcover standing on the typewriter.
    All killers no fillers.
This soundtrack is still great after 30 years. It's a magnificent bouquet of flowers......

    Larry Carlton, Friends, 1983, WB Germany, 92 3834 1

I like Tequila. Not the drink! But track A3 with Al Jarreau and the great guitar solo by LC.
BB King on track A4 "Blues for TJ": majestic.
    Who is TJ?

Larry Carlton, Last Nite, 1987, MCA Germany, 254 4421

Blues. Live recorded February 17, 1986 at The Baked Potato, North Hollywood. The most thrilling album by LC.
A1 Miles Davis' "So what". B1 Miles Davis' "All Blues".
