John Coltrane, Coltrane Plays The Blues, 1962, DOL Europe, DOL755H, Reissue 2015

New 180gr vinyl pressing "Manufactured in Europe" by DOL. Reissue 2015.
DOL is a trademark of russian "VINYLOGY" www. vinylogy.ru.
Is this a russian pressing? Anybody knows?
Manufactured "in Europe" does not mean the same as "in EU". Russia is not partner of EU.
Warning: this pressing was incorrectly produced IMHO. There is acoustic and sratching noise on some tracks. Severe hissing on bonus track B4 "Exotica". No tendency to improve after washing with Hannl. Optically the vinyl surface looks perfect. The sticker "180 gr heavy vinyl" is not always a sign of quality!
Attention to such pressings of obscure origin. The customers have the right to know the original factory of the products! "EU" origin means nothing.........In this case it's not possible to get to know the origin of the pressing factory.
    Anybody knows better?

Huey Lewis And The News, Same, 1980, Chrysalis Germany, 202 700

Debut album. 36 years ago. Huey Lewis, great performer.
Look at the cult guitar model on front cover picture: Danelektro double neck.
Look at the cult piece of sports equipment on back cover: every group member wants to own this big board.
I want to own the guitar........

Simple Minds, Street Fighting Years, 1989, Virgin England, MINDS1

Every track is a Scottish hymn. Cameo voice by Lou Reed on track A4 "This is your land".
    Good UK pressing.

180 gr "high-definition premium virgin vinyl pressing for super fidelity" (!!!), as noted on the sticker. 2 bonus tracks recorded 1962 in Chicago: A7 "Send me your pillow" and B7 "Onions" with saxophones and second guitar.
    Raw. Stripped-down. Bare bones approach.
    Superb dynamics.
Anybody may identify the famous song of a famous boy group of the sixties while listening to track A1, John Lee Hooker's "I need some money"????

Les Platters, Leurs 12 plus grands succes, 1963?, Mercury France, 135.967 MCY

While putting the meat and potatowedges onto the barbecue grill: listening to track A6 "Smoke gets in your eyes".
The dynamics are mediocre. Year of publication is not possible to get to know. 1961 is not possible because of the advertisement of the 1963 Sarah Vaughan LP "Sassy swings the Tivoli" on back cover. Anybody knows?

Wilson Pickett, Don't Knock My Love, 1971, Atlantic USA, SD 8300

Recorded at famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. Dennis Coffee & Tippy Armstrong guitars. Wilson Pickett singing and screaming.
Anybody owns further recordings of Tippy Armstrong?
Interesting version of Free song "Fire and water" on track A1 with an overdose of screaming. Let's go back to Paul Rodgers vocals.....

    Man - Maximum Darkness
(1975, UA) UK pressing, "A Porky Prime Cut" in the deadwax, mastered by George Peckham

w/ John Cippolina from QMS. Back from vacation in Europe. This LP is a recent pickup while in Switzerland, found at the Lucerne Saturday flea market by the river.

lunch on Sunday after a hike to the Mt. Pilatus summit with my nephew. Communal grilling on the wood fire - they are serious about sausages in Switzerland.

Great. After this fleamarket purchase you didn't have any money left for a grilled sausage, right?
Today on fleamarkets in Switzerland it's nearly impossible to get any rare vinyl Lps. The used-vinyl market has been dried out by professional internet salesmen.
The high priced new pressings often don't have the good quality anymore as the old vinyl did. Look at my post of 6. August 2016 concerning a disappointing new pressing. So let's keep our old vinyl collection for our nephews and their nephews.

Larry Carlton, Strikes Twice, 1980, WB Germany, 56 723

Thriftstore find last week. Some scratches, but after washing it: sounds great.
Too much synthesizers IMHO. But the 80ies were synthies time.....Everybody owned a keyboard then. Everybody called himself a musician.
Larry Carlton is called Mr. 335. Look at the front cover picture: this is the famous 1968 Gibson ES 335 mostly used by Larry Carlton. Also today.

Betty Wright, Danger High Voltage, 1975, RCA Germany, SF 8408

What great voice! Listen to track A5, Allen Toussaint's "Shoorah! Shoorah!". Funky song, not typically in 70ies disco style.
This is a good one to listen to while having the holiday-end blues......
