Les Baxter, African Jazz, 1959, Capitol US, T 1117

    Mono. Maximum sound and dynamics.
Listen to the "Congo Train" wailing through the night, the oriental jangle of "Cairo Bazaar" and the smoke-filled nightclub in "Mombasa After Midnight".
Look at this very very beautiful cover art!!!
Africa still echoes with the primitive beat. Thrilling adventure in exotic sounds. Somebody has written "erotic" with pencil below "exotic".
    Yesssss!

Les Baxter, Jungle Jazz, 1959, Capitol US, T 1184

    Plas Johnson saxophone.
The jungle is exciting and Les Baxter's music matches perfectly.
Very old but perfect US vinyl.
    Superb dynamics.

Les Baxter, Tamboo!, 1955, Capitol Germany, T655

Sixty years old german vinyl. Nonbreakable!!! Mono.
It sound's still superb though there are many scratches on the surface. But in the groove there are the rich dynamics of the jungle preserved.
Since 3 weeks we have tropical weather in Switzerland. Everyday much rain. The Rhein is full and overflowing the riverside. They say, the Bodensee will also be overflowing tomorrow.
So this is the appropriate jazz music for the contemporary tropical weather in Switzerland.

It's still more than a month before I visit Switzerland - hopefully all that rain will be finished by then and back to summer sunshine!

stay dry, cause if it keeps on raining you know what's going to happen...

This was my favorite band and music in the seventies. Gary Brooker was the mastermind. I bought EVERY album of PH. In the next days there will be much sunshine in Switzerland. Summer is here at last. So listen to "Salad days are here again" of Procol Harum's debut album.

Booker T. & The M.G.'S, Greatest Hits, 1978, Stax Bellaphon Germany, STX 88003

Thriftstore find last week for 2 SFr.
Very good german Bellaphon pressing. Bellaphon always had high standard of quality. "Soul Limbo" still has this certain funfair feeling: roundabout music.

The german original issue looks like this. Album cover by Hipgnosis looks slightly different to the US issue.
Soundtrack for a French hippie movie nobody has ever seen. Anybody did?
The plot of the movie is about a German student who meets a beautiful girl in Paris who is into drugs. After falling in love with her, he gets addicted to heroin and eventually dies of an overdose. Interesting theme????
Listen to the blues: track B3, Gilmour's "More Blues". Simple and pure!

Chet Atkins, The Other Chet Atkins, 1960, RCA Victor USA, LSP 2175

Thriftstore find this afternoon for 4 SFr. Very very dirty. After washing for half an hour: what a big surprise! Superb dynamics. Some slightly audible scratches. A sound full of life, conserved in 2 grooves on a 56 years old american vinyl LP.
Notice on back cover: A fine record deserves an RCA Victor Stereo High Fidelity "Victrola".
    Anybody who knows "Victrola"?????
