Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, Somethin' Else, 1958, Blue Note UK, ST-46338, RI 1997

Superb UK reissue pressing 1997 on 180 gr vinyl. Mastered from the original analog tapes. More is not possible for vinyl freaks, isn't it? "Mastered by Capitol" inscription in the deadwax. What is the meaning of the following sentence on back cover? "Users of Wide Range should adjust their controls for RIAA curve". Is anybody able to explain that?

    Influenza

[QUOTE=SEAWOLF97;386589]Been stuck in the house with a bad head cold for about a week. Conserving energy, I sat down and started reading this thread FROM PAGE 1 (currently up to #37 )

It was fun in the earlier days with more than 2 posting.

    don't think I ever answered LR's question.

A triple confluence in '68 kept me from that. 1. no money 2. no TT 3. not near any selling place.

now that I have copies, the dynamics on the LP are terrible, maybe the worst treatment of great material that I've experienced. (except , maybe ..."Shades" ) . their mastering sucked in those days.[/QUOT

Best wishes for getting well soon. With the help of good sounds. They are everywhere. As Influenza does.

Cannonball Adderley, Things Are Getting Better, 1958, Riverside D, OJC-032

German reissue of the 90ies. "Riverside Spectrosonic High Fidelity Engineering". I don't understand this term, but it sounds great.

decided to turn off Pandora for a while

    .
    glad I did ...

put on the double, remastered vinyl set of The Patsy Cline Story.

geeeze, from the V15T3 to the big Adcom amp to the a/d/s towers .... it sounds fine.
she sure had an incredible voice/delivery.

listening to an old favorite; side 1 on a pair of Infinity ES 200 speakers that were recently refoamed, they're a really nice Infinity example 3-ways w/ Polycell mids and tweeters and they even have a passive woofer. Sounds great in the 14x14 room; also listened a bit on a pair of Magnepan MG-1 improveds but they are all midrange/not rock speakers. Listening to side 2 in the main room on the JBL Model 4430 studio monitors powered with a Mcintosh MC 2205, crushing.
interesting to read this old post ..... I'm now the proud (?) owner of a pair of Magnepan MG-1 improveds also. When tested with a Velodyne sub , it was pretty good.

Wow that is an old post. The Infinities are being enjoyed by a niece, the Magnepans were sent down the road quite long time ago.

I bet you're having fun with those. Very nice / magical when sitting in (a very narrow) sweet spot with the right material.

These days I listen to Planar Magnetics via HiFiman HE-400i headphones. There's no positioning fuss when the drivers are strapped to your head!

The Soft Machine plays music for the mind. In it's stricted sense, it may impose some cerebral responsibility on the listener, because you can't really hum along or have the tune pass through your head as you walk in the streets. (Cit.: Lyrics on inner foldcover). That's right and yes, you can't dance to this music. Good sounding German 1987 reissue. Listen to track A6 "Dada was here", because in these days Switzerland remembers the beginnings of the "Dada-Movement" in 1916 at Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich.

Chicken Shack, The Very Best Of, 1990, CBS D, 467364 1

O.K. Ken? Accept Chicken Shack! 40 Blues fingers, freshly packed and 100 tons chicken are waiting for you. Listen to their early single hit track A10 "Tears in the wind" and the swinging track A8 "Remington ride". Stan plays with webbed feet (track A7) as he meets Christine, who was perfect then.

Chicken Shack, In The Can, 1980, CBS UK 31811

These were the times of tape-salad, as it happened sometimes in those tape decks. Compilation of their classic hits 1968-1970. Dynamic English pressing. As the picture on back cover shows: Stan is doubtful about the future with Christine in his band. She left in 1969.....

Chicken Shack, The Golden Era Of Pop Music, 1973, 2LP, CBS NE, S 68 252

Perfect dynamics on this Holland pressing for german fans! Compilation of the classic hits 1968-1969. Listen to Webb's typical warm Gibson Les Paul guitar sound. Oh, what a wonderful guitar player he is. Does humour belong in music? Yesss: between the tracks we may hear the famous voices of John Peel, Hughie Green, Max Wall, Kenneth Williams, Chris Wood, Harold Wilson, Steptoe and son and of the speaker of Radio 5. Chicken Shack, 100 Ton Chicken, 1969, Line D, OL LP 5297 AS, 1983 RI

Produced by Mike Vernon for Blue Horizon Records. Christine has gone. Paul Raymond now plays the piano and organ. The songs got more "Rock" effect. Superb German 1983 reissue. Perfect dynamics. Look at Stan Webb on front cover picture looking for a guitar....

Chicken Shack, Accept, 1970, Blue Horizon US, BH 4809

Superbly produced by Mike Vernon. The last one with Paul Raymond. He joined Savoy Brown and later UFO. Also Silvester and Bidwell left for Savoy Brown. After this LP, Chicken Shack were not accepted by Blue Horizon Records any longer. 45 years old US vinyl in perfect condition. Enjoy the typical Les Paul sound!
