George Duke, Rendezvous, 1984, Epic NE, 26059, Mati Klarwein cover art

Also this one is cover art by Mati Klarwein. He did also the little poem on back cover. The name of the front picture: "The great pyramid". It was published in "God Jokes, The Art Of Mati Abdul Klarwein". This one is a well made Holland pressing. Guitars by Paul Jackson and Mike Sembello. IMHO: you have to forget quickly the dumb synthesizers and eunuch style vocals of George Duke........

Santana, Abraxas, 1970, CBS NE, S 64087, Club Edition, Mati Klarwein cover art

Who is the man with the sunglasses and straw hat on back cover of Abraxas? It's Mati Klarwein himself, isn't he? Superb Holland pressing for book and music Club "Ex Libris", Switzerland. 45 years old vinyl in good condition.

Nice. not a bad way to hear the mix of songs thrown together in this compilation.

Big cinema for your ears. In Europe, this non LP singles collection was not called "Hey Jude", but "The Beatles Again". Unconventional and innovative bass playing on every track especially on "Rain", "Old brown shoe" and "Don't let me down". Superb french pressing with very good dynamics. Nicky Hopkins piano on "Revolution". Ronnie Scott sax on "Lady Madonna". Billy Preston organ on "Old brown shoe" and wonderful electric piano on "Don't let me down". "The ballad of John and Yoko" was recorded only by Lennon/McCartney without Harrison and Ringo. Listen to "Can't buy me love" and compare it with Count Basie's "Swinging the blues". It's the same blues song.......

"Can't buy me love" is a rip-off from Count Basie's "Swinging the blues" on track B6 of this french double album. Nobody ever noticed that.

    The Beatles, Let It Be...Naked, 2003, Apple Parlophone EU, 5 95438 0 2

Remastered. Stripped down as it was planned originally by the Beatles before Phil Spector rushed in. Additional 7" disc "Fly on the wall": a unique insight into the Beatles at work in rehearsal and in the studio during January 1969. Oh yeah! Music history.....

The Count Basie Band/Williams/Gillespie, At Newport, 1957, Verve US, V6-8560

Some roots. Recorded live at Newport Festival July 7, 1957 by Norman Granz. Blues shouter Joe Williams brought the band to the attention of a larger-than-jazz public. Here he is singing on tracks A2-A5. Tracks B1-B3 are recorded together with the Dizzy Gillespie Band. Dizzy's breathtakingly fast, clean and inventive trumpet solos brought enthusiastic response. Listen to the soulful introduction of track B3. Good US pressing (MGM reissue from the seventies?) with some impressive live atmosphere carefully conserved. Where is the wit of America today?

Count Basie, Basie's In The Bag, 1973, Brunswick One Way BRAS, OW 551

Some more roots. Replanted. Interesting versions of popular R&B hits. If you are not very familiar with big band jazz, you must love this one! Listen to tracks A4 "Ain't too proud to beg" and A2 "Hang on sloopy". By the way: does anybody know the meaning (german translation) of the word "Sloopy"?

Swinging the blues/Can't buy me love

Concerning my post on the Beatles rip-off from "Swinging the blues": does anybody own the Count Basie vinyl record "Basie's Beatle Bag"? It would be very interesting to compare Basie's version of "Can't buy me love" with his "Swinging the blues".

The Beatles, On Air- Live At The BBC Vol.2, 2013, Apple EU, 3LP, Mono, 3750506

A little bit of music history, because it's a rainy weekend. Normally we have much snow in this region of Switzerland in January. Greetings to El Nino.
This one is a fine and affectionate vinyl collection about the BBC broadcast recordings of 1962 until 1965 by the magical mystery four. They had much fun while playing live. Listen especially to the guitar playing by George and John on their Rickenbacker guitars! Mono recordings. Perfect pressings.

German reissue 1985. Is your version with a foldcover? Rick Wakeman keyboards. Tony Visconti and Herbie Flowers bass. How is the Dynaflex pressing? 50gr Vinyl?

    Fritz ;

If you can size your photos to 700 pixels and use a smaller font,
your posts could be much easier to read w/o side scrolling. thx.
