John Renbourn, Faro Annie, 1971, Transatlantic GB, TRA 247

John Renbourn plays and sings the traditional blues songs. He blends them with Irish folk. Listen to instrumental track B5 "Faro Annie". Beautiful relaxt sitar playing on various tracks. Track A3 "Kokomo Blues" in laidback JJ Cale-style. He is a chamäleon of guitar styles. Excellent english pressing.

Various Artists, Urban Cowboy, OST, 1980, Full Moon US, 2LP

Some great guitar players: Listen to track B1 "Stand by me": typically playing by famous Telecaster master James Burton. B2 "Cherokee fiddle" with a steel guitar solo by Sneaky Pete Kleinow. C3 is with Mr. Gibson335 Larry Carlton together with Sneaky Pete Kleinow. A2 Joe Walsh singing and guitar playing all night long. A3 with Dan Fogelberg. D2 Charlie Daniels guitar and lead vocal together heartwarming twin guitars with Tom Crain. No guitar by Bonnie Rait. But strong vocal on "Darlin'". D4 Steve Lukather. D5 Ricky Scaggs and J.D. Souther.
Mastered by Capitol "Wally". All winners no fillers. And don't forget to dance with waltzing Anne Murray.......

Keith Jarrett, Facing You, 1972, ECM D, ECM 1017 ST

Perfect vinyl pressing technique. You should grab every ECM record you meet on your way through thriftstores. They are ALWAYS in good condition. Nobody puts any greasy fingers on ECM records.......

Thanks it's a favorite, as with just about everything the individual artists worked on. I'd like to run across an inexpensive UK Transatlantic copy of this one.

Spirit, The Adventures Of...In Potato Land, 1981, Rhino US, RNSP 303

Bizzare. But a very interesting one. Does humour belong to music? Yessss! Remember Zappa. Anyone hearing this LP for the first time might conclude, that this is one of the weirdest albums ever produced. Randy California and Ed Cassidy recorded this music in 1973. It was then rejected for release by Epic. In 1981 Randy California overdubed the tapes of this concept album to make it more compatible with the times. This 1981 version of Potatoland isn't the same anymore. It features four newly recorded tracks on the first side. The second side is material from the first side of the original 1973 version, but heavily remixed with many new parts and overdubs added.
Some interesting melodious songs and much nonsense. Listen to the Byrds-style track B7 "My friend". Beautiful. A crazy gem of LP.

Ellen Foley, Spirit Of St. Louis, 1981, Epic US, 84809

A magical one. One of the most beautiful songs recorded ever is by Ellen Foley and her "Clash" boy friend Joe Strummer. What a wonderful gem: Listen to track A1 "The shuttered palace". Don't mind the liner notes by Ellen Foley which tell an interesting story: "Produced by my boyfriend for a couple of blow jobs". It's the same old story:the beauty and the beast.......

Produced by Jimi Hendrix. These guys met Hendrix while playing the Café Wha? in NYC. Great stuff, could mistake this for Moby Grape.

Wow, I must have skimmed through the liner notes on that record. I'm sure that wasn't the first or last record that were helped along by blow of some kind.

Is the influence of Jimi Hendrix noticeable? Did he play guitar on this LP?

This is a Holland rerelease of 1978. The voice of Dick Peterson was simply annoyant. Look at my next post. This pressing has weak dynamics. The lyrics on back cover by Owsley are nonsense. This LP is not my piece of cake. Listen to The Who's version of Summertime Blues. Listen to Iron Butterfly. They all were very much better. This is kind of a cheap hype.....
