King Crimson - Starless & Bible Black
(1974, Atlantic) '85 reissue on Editions EG; HuB in the deadwax

Nice sound quality which is a good thing with this title. HuB = Frankford-Wayne mastering, from some quick web research.

Nice. A change of pace from Lynott's Thin Lizzy work, this is pop but with his same songwriting hooks and voice. w/ Mark Knopfler

a rare VG++ copy. These are usually seen in terrible shape, along with other early TYA records.

Nice. I haven't listened to these '80s KC records in years. I spotted them while going through storage.

See if you can find Zappa "Roxy and Elsewhere" which is a double live LP consisting primarily of new material. Band includes Chester Thompson on drums, George Duke on keyboards, a full horn section, and some of Zappa's strongest material (much of which has a jazz fusion flavor on this album). If Roxy and Elsewhere doesn't convert you into a Zappa fan, nothing will!

(This clip is actually two songs - both very different from each other, both great IMO. If you have time, try to listen all the way through)

recycled pictures. I normally run out of interest in Zappa after a couple of tracks but not here with Captain Beefheart in the house. recorded live in Austin, 1975.

The mailman showed up bearing gifts yesterday. I just bought all seven of the recently reissued Pretenders albums (their first seven albums). I buzzed through them to check out the sound quality and played one of them all the way through and the remastering job on these is stellar. This is the first time IMO the Pretenders albums sound better on CD than on vinyl (these were lovingly remastered from the original master tapes). Not to mention, the original single LP's are now each three disc remastered sets (two CD and one DVD except for "Packed" which is one CD and one DVD). They've included tons of rare and unreleased material ranging from live tracks to demos, b-sides, unreleased songs etc.--many of which are surprisingly good! The DVD's for each title include not only the promo videos for that particular album, but also live performances from that album's tour. Highly recommended for any fan of the Pretenders--not only for the abundance of extra material, but for the huge upgrade in sound quality.

Many fans only know the Pretenders early material, but some of their mid period and later albums are amazing! Here's one from the album "Packed".

Thanks, I did have a copy of that record in the past couple of years which I moved down the line after a couple of listens. I do have nice copies of Zappa studio LPs which are fun in small doses especially for the great playing and sound quality but most of the songwriting just doesn't click for me.
