I love those liner notes--I've heard most of these Kinks songs but never had this album or read the notes before. I think it's safe to say the national heroes referred to are Pete Townshend, Ray Davies, Mick Jagger, but who is Dave? Not Dave Davies, maybe Dave Clark? In one of my favorite interviews with Tom Hanks (he was promoting the GREAT movie "That Thing You Do" anyone here ever seen it?), he was joking about the fact that when he was a kid growing up, he thought that the Dave Clark Five was better than the Beatles because they had five guys and the Beatles only had four--and also because the Dave Clark Five had a sax!

Good catch, the DC5 were hot in 1966 so I bet that's Dave Clark. Funny story from Hanks!

Played it Tuesday after work and
dabbled a bit with his first (Bowl of Cherries) album too ...

One of my favorites by Sir Paul as well--great collection of songs. I remember thinking when this album was released in 1971 that it was just like having a new Beatles album--I liked it that much!
