w/ Richard Thompson, Steve Winwood. Kind of unsettling to hear her sing Candle In The Wind here, one year before her death.

    Pekka Pohjola - Space Waltz
(1985, Breakthru) STERLING in the deadwax; mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound

another surpising thrift find this week. probably related to other records from Western Washington University's music library that I've seen at the thrifts, this one has the KUGS call letters for the WWU campus radio station. prog/fusion, recorded in Helsinki. Pohjola played with Mike Oldfield, and this is similar to Oldfield's work. a nice sounding high quality audiophile recording.

    Tim Buckley - Starsailor
    (1970, Straight Warner Bros) -1A/-1A; WS 1881

a surprising $1 find in the clearance bins yesterday, with the cover still in-shrink. looks and sounds like the previous owner was expecting to hear something along the lines of The Association - Windy / Cherish - and they permanently shelved this in horror after hearing Buckley's banshee wails and speaking in tongues.

This is an amazing album--some great early Todd and a very under-appreciated LP IMHO. Todd really came into his own as a songwriter on this one--very soulful songs and consistent writing. A friend of mine used to say that on Todd's early albums (like this one) he sounded like a "male Carol King"!

Agree, amazing songs and production. Patti Smith's review of the LP for Rolling Stone.
