    Flora Purim - Everyday, Everynight
(1978, Warner Bros) Promo/NFS; KENDUN-A JG in the deadwax, mastered by John Golden at Kendun Studios

a 49cent thrift find yesterday. Some of the tracks suffer from the over-produced studio blandness of a lot of late 70s jazz recordings but there are a few Brazilian songs, sambas with terrific percussion thanks to husband Airto no doubt, and then there are Flora Purim's vocals which are wonderful as always.

    Bonnie Raitt - The Glow
    (1979, Warner-Pioneer) Japanese pressing

this was a surprising 49cent thrift find yesterday. I almost flipped past it alongside the Manilows and Ferrante/Teichers because it looked like a US copy, no Japan markings except on the cover's spine. I don't know if the cover ever had an OBI strip, no sign of glue. I was happy when I looked at the record label and saw it's a Warner-Pioneer Japanese pressing. The record sounds wonderful like other Japanese pressings I've heard, the bass is tight and deeeeep.

Classic Floyd--some great songs on this LP. I've always preferred their Gilmour era stuff like this one (post Barrett) although Sid undeniably had his own moments of genius as well. Notice on the LP's label it says "music from the film The Valley". I've never seen this film, but I see that it's available from Amazon--tempted to buy a copy.....

Those of us who don't speak French should be careful not to confuse "La Vallee" with L.A. Valley which I presume would have been a very different film!

Looking forward to some listening time this weekend after a busy, productive week. Blowin' some dust out of the big JBLs with this classic Free record.

Gentle Giant - In A Glass House
    (1973, WWA) UK pressing

a find at HPB earlier in the week, really enjoying a first listen. the usual interesting playing with changes in tempo, almost classical sounding passages. The cover includes a transparent "window" and card stock insert with a partial drawing of the band members on it.

    Steve Hillage - Fish Rising
    (1975, Virgin) UK pressing

another record with lots of complex time changes and textures. Great playing from lots of fellow ex-Gong and others from the Canterbury scene. Hillage's 1st solo LP. I picked this up at HPB recently.

    Lou Reed - Transformer
    (1972, RCA) 1980 reissue

wow, this Dynaflex reissue sounds terrific. I picked up the CD earlier this year, was underwhelmed by the sonics on the CD so I wasn't expecting much but this record smokes with punchy bass and decent soundstage considering the material. a $3 pickup at HPB yesterday.
