Richard and Linda Thompson - I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight
(1974, Island) MASTERDISK in the deadwax; 1983 reissue on Carthage Records

I been meaning to play this since last week when my musician neighbor mentioned Richard Thompson as a favorite from Fairport. Tasty English folk-rock. I had no idea this was on the RS list of the 500 all-time greatest records.

Nice finds! those early Nancys are great fun especially the duets with Lee Hazlewood, aka Mr. baritone gravel-voice.

The Kinks - The Kinks' Greatest Hits
    (1966, Reprise) Mono pressing

Killer tracks which were first heard over AM hit radio on tinny transitor radios as part of the British invasion. I'm sure that "Till The End Of The Day" "You Really Got Me" and "All Day And All Of The Night" led to many transitor speaker melt downs.

    earlier...

Murray McLauchlan - Day To Day Dust
    (1973, True North)

Singer songwriter folk-rock, starts off with a folk protest track "Hurricane of Change" that reminds me of one of Dylan's songs. McLauchlan's voice sounds like Arlo Guthrie to me. I picked this up this copy at a Portland, OR record show last year. includes a lyric sheet that was printed on recycled de-inked fibers, which AllMusic notes was probably an expensive commitment to recycling in 1973. I have another title by McLauchlan from 1976, Boulevard.

    now...

Diane Hildebrand - Early Morning Blues And Greens
    (1969, Elektra)

more singer songwriter folk-rock. Nice pop production on some songs including horns and organ arrangements.

Monterey Pop Fest ? in '67 some of my older friends organized a VW van load to go up there to the fest ... it was like $3 for a day ticket , 6 for all days. Dad wouldn't let me go , still had HS work to do...then a year later I end up in school at Monterey , just a little late ....but that was a great launching pad to see the Bay Area concerts of '68

I had forgotten how great an album JT's "Stand Up" is... (so grabbed a digi copy too)

I suppose if you saw concerts in the Bay area in '68, you know what you missed in not seeing Monterrey... I need to check out the Monterrey Pop documentary film again... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3nlvDYnnsQ

    The Beatles - Help!
    (1965, EMI/Parlophone) mid 70's German pressing

The 1965 edition of the Beatles might be my favorite. With horizons expanded by Dylan's influence. The opening scene[/URL] from Help! -- when the scene transitions from the weird eastern sacrificial ceremony to the Beatles performing Help in a black and white music video - Goose Bumps.

    Fairport Convention - self titled
    (1969, A&M)

English folk-rock. This record was released in the U.K. as "What We Did On Our Holidays", with Sandy Denny's other worldly vocals on Fotheringay, Dylan's I'll Keep It With Mine, The Book Song, and others. Wonderful song writing from Denny and Richard Thompson. I can't get enough of this record or this version of the band.

i don't usually listen to country much, unless it's like this -

this one took me by surprize ,

Girl that sorta looks like Britney Spears wrote and sings a plum sad song -

    Dead Flowers Lyrics
    Artist(Band):Miranda Lambert

    I feel like the
    flowers in this vase,
    He just brought em'
    home one day,
    "Ain't they beautiful"
    he said.
    They've been here in
    the kitchen and the
    water's turnin' grey.
    They're sittin' in
    the vase but now
    they're dead.
    Dead flowers.

    I feel like this
    long string of lights.
    They lit up our whole
    house on christmas day.
    But now it's January
    and the bulbs have
    all burned out,
    But still they hang.
    Like dead flowers.

    He ain't feelin' anything
My love, my hurt, or the
    sting of this rain.
    I'm livin' in a hurricane.
    All he can say is,
"Man ain't it such a nice day"
    Yeah, Yeah.

    I feel like the
    tires on this car.
They said we won't go far
    but we're still rollin'
I look in the rear view
and I see dead flowers in the yard
    and that string of lights.
    But and it ain't glowin'
    Like dead flowers.
    Like dead flowers.

    He ain't feelin' anything
My love, my hurt, or the
    sting of this rain.
    I'm drivin' through a hurricane.
    All he can say is,
"Man ain't it such a nice day"
Hey, hey I guess we'll just
go to waste, like dead flowers.

    Like dead flowers.
    Dead flowers.
