Holy smokes, high and mids are very distinct and layered on this record - guitar strings, individual piano keys, cymbal brushes and other percussion. a $1 yard sale pickup last weekend.

    The Rowans - self titled
(1975, Asylum) mastering by Doug Sax

very pleasant LA folk/country rock on Asylum. includes their Midnight Moonlight song which was later covered on the Garcia/Grisman "Old And In The Way" record. Peter Rowan plays acoustic & electric guitar, mandocello, mandola, mandolin, tamboura, rolmo, ghanta. "ganja boom boom" (?) is included in the instrument list for Lorin Rowan.

    now...

Fraser & Debolt - Fraser & Debolt With Ian Guenther
    (1970, Columbia)

Allan Fraser and Daisy DeBolt, Canadian folk duo. Really interesting quirky songs with distintive voices, especially DeBolt. an Allmusic review:
One of the many sad secrets of the popular music business is the way this little gem languished in obscurity. It should have been heard by millions, but disappeared at the height of psychedelia. Two years later, The Band found an audience with haunting tales of bygone rustic North American life with their seminal, self-titled second album. Widespread acclaim eluded the earlier outing by this unheralded Canadian trio. The songs, most written independently by Daisy DeBolt or Allan Fraser, are poetic.

(1985, Columbia) STERLING P(mp) in the deadwax; mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound

Box set with 5 LPs + booklet, I received this as a gift back in the day. Full of interesting unreleasesd material from Dylan's first three decades. Listening to sides 7/8 which includes "Up To Me" - a companion song to Shelter From The Storm which was left off the Blood On The Tracks LP and previously unreleased.
