Sandy Nelson - Live! in Las Vegas
    (1964, Liberty) German pressing

re-channeled stereo and a live recording - most tracks sound thin.

Robin Trower - Twice Removed From Yesterday
    (1973, Chrysalis)

Trower's first solo LP; I remember being floored hearing this and his guitar playing on this record back in the day, still sounds great.

Rune Gustafsson - Rune At The Top
    (1969, Atlantic) Promo/NFS

A dollar thrift store find awhile back. The liner notes cite Jim Hall and "a young Larry Coryell" as influences. I was hoping for something gritty-er, the arrangements here are pleasant enough but side 1 was enough. Moving on to...

    Paul Desmond - Summertime
    (1969, A&M/CTI)

recorded fall 1968. includes a cover of OB-LA-DI, OB-LA-DA. w/ Joe Beck, Bucky Pizzarelli, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Airto, Deodato, Joe Venuto, JJ Johnson, Kai Winding. very nice.

Fairport Convention - Rising For The Moon
(1975, Island) mastered at The Mastering Lab

"What Is True" by Sandy Denny and "White Dress" by Dave Swarbrick are favorites, I saw a pointer to a too-short clip of a promo video for the record recently, would really like to see more from that session.

The John Coltrane Quartet - Africa / Brass
(1961, Impulse!) RVG STEREO in the deadwax; engineer: Rudy Van Gelder

I'm still not through the C's as I sort the jazz records, finding records like this one is slowing things down. a stunning recording with tons of depth, and the rhythm section is visceral "felt in or as if in the internal organs of the body".

The Sonics - Here Are The Sonics!!!
    (1965, Etiquette) ET-LPS-024 Stereo

An insane $1 yard sale find this afternoon. debut from the garage rock band with flame-throwers like Psycho, Have Love Will Travel, and The Witch. I have read ("SONIC BOOM! The HISTORY of NORTHWEST ROCK" BOOK )that the Big local stations like KJR wouldn't play their first single, The Witch, until kids started insisting at the dances, they still wouldn't play it before 3pm to avoid freaking out the housewives. Psycho was on the B side and was a big hit too.

    Thelonious Monk - Monk's Moods
    (1953, Prestige) 1959 issue PRLP-7159

w/ Percy Heath, bass; Art Blakey, drums. a $1 garage sale find yesterday, it still has the "Valu-Mart", a local department store in the 60s, price tag ($3.09) on the back. The LP was stored without an inner sleeve, lots of light scratches, but cleaned up well on VPI and plays well. These old Prestige LPs are heavy and seem to hold up well.
