Martha Velez - American Heartbeat
(1977, Sire) STERLING in the deadwax
Velez recorded a blues/rock album Fiends And Angels in London in 1969, with Eric Clapton. Christine McVie. I ran across it in a thrift a year or two ago, a really nice '69 blues rock record. This title is a late 70s slick pop production. Not the same, but I like her singing.

Martha Velez - Fiends And Angels
(1969, Sire/London) Bell Sound SF in the deadwax; mastered by Sam Feldman at Bell Sound studios
1969 blues rock record recorded in London with some heavyweight guests starting with EC on the guitar. Velez has a strong, sexy voice and reminds me of Lydia Pense. w/ Clapton, Johnny Almond, Brian Auger, Jack Bruce, Jim Capaldi, Keef Hartley, Christine McVie, Mitch Mitchell.

The Beatles - Abbey Road
(1969, Apple) UK pressing
Glossy european cover and a nice sounding UK EMI recording. I haven't A/B'd with last year's Remastered Abbey Road CD, but I think this is just as stunning. I think this is a 1975 reissue, with "all rights reserved" on the outer edge of the label.

watched the "John Lennon" NYC American Masters show on PBS last night and learned a lot and gained some respect for John...a decent show.

a little trivia bit was that he would tune his guitar and then retune the D string flat so that he could pick his playing out while back listening to the band.

Leonard Cohen - New Skin For The Old Ceremony
(1974, Columbia) MASTERDISK G.K. in the deadwax; mastered by Gilbert Kong at Masterdisk
according to wikipedia article, the U.S. record label, Columbia Records printed early edition of the album minus the image substituting instead a photo of Cohen. a dry baritone singing voice reminds me of Lee Hazlewood. Great imagery in Cohen's lyrics, I think my first exposure to his music was the movie soundtrack for McCabe And Mrs. Miller, where Robert Altman really integrated the songs with the film. background vocalists include Janis Ian here.

John Cougar Mellencamp - The Lonesome Jubilee
(1987, Mercury) Precision in the deadwax; mastered by Stephen Marcussen, Precision Lacquer, Hollywood, CA
I never listened John Cougar Mellencamp back in the day, mostly avoided the hits when they came on the car radio, etc. I heard Mellencamp interviewed on NPR a couple of months ago for his latest release. a great story. I decided to grab a couple of his titles when I spotted them on the 50 cent clearance shelf at HPB. This one is nice straight ahead rock without the slick synth sound of typical 80s release. This one is stamped Promo/NFS on the back cover and printed on the record label.
