UK Edsel pressings mostly have poor dynamics. Why? Does anybody know? Deadwax inscription: A Porky Prime Cut. There are 4 live tracks from 1969 and 1970 on this compilation. Disappointing.

Also my wife loves this one because of track B6, the Leiber/Stoller hit "Lucky lips". We knew it in the sixties in german as "Rote Lippen soll man küssen": also Cliff Richard had lucky lips and voice. Ruth Brown not only had lucky lips: she also had a great voice....She died 2006 in Las Vegas. Good Denmark pressing.

Are such kind of 4 track tapes still in sale? I have never seen this official kind of tape in Switzerland. Why 4 tracks? My "tape times" were in the seventies. After that there were the cassette tape decks. Some of this equipment still remains somewhere in the attic. I fear, those drive rubberbands may be rotten during the last 30 years......Led Zep 2 was a vulcano eruption. We used to dance to "Whole lotta love" at many saturday evening parties. Funny times then.....But today there is an overkill of Led Zeppelin reissues, remastering and recovering of curious lost tracks in the last two years. There are no surprising tracks to recover anymore. Robert Plant knows....Jimmy Page was a great innovative guitar player in the seventies. But in the last years he was the "master of hypes". Commercial overkill IMHO. But young people look at this the other way. See my next post concerning the new reissues of Led Zep LPs on CD.

I don't think any labels are selling reel to reel recordings now. It was never a big market but reel to reel decks were popular with lots of HiFi enthusiasts in the 60s and 70s - for good reason. The sound quality of an original source 7.5 IPS tape on a good deck can be as good as it gets.

Powerful new versions of his "hits". Recorded at Fantasy Studios Berkeley, Febr/March/April 1975 without Joe Zawinul. Listen to every track. There are only killers on this one. No fillers. "Country Preacher" is kind of a hymn. "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" is a classic popular jazz hit. Thanks to Joe Zawinul. Excellent dynamics. US pressing. You are not very familiar with Jazz? So put this one on your turntable and enjoy!

Superb live in the studio recording with excellent dynamics though it's a cheap reissue on EMI sublabel. Recorded october 20, 1966, live in the studio in Los Angeles by producer David Axelrod who set up a club in Capitol studios and furnished free drinks to an invitation-only audience.

Beer o'clock music. Superb Holland Mono pressing. Listen to Jimmy Cobb's drumming and Sam Jones' bass playing. Excellent. Julian and Nat were simply outstanding.
