Medieval hippie circus. Oh, those early 70ies were so playful......

Joe Boyd needed lots of patience watching ISB going off in these directions. I think he mentions being puzzled in his retrospective book published awhile back - White Bicycles. I have a copy of this record in the queue. I love ISB and I'll reserve judgment until I listen, but this record might have been a bridge too far.

Herbie Mann, Hold On I'm Coming, 1973, Atlantic Germany, ATL, 40467

Recorded live at the 1972 New York & Montreux Jazz Festivals.
Interesting especially because of Sonny Sharrock's unobtrusive but efficient live guitar. Listen to his contributions on Miles Davis' "A tribute to Jack Johnson".
Listen to Sharrocks witty and wild solo on track B1 "Memphis Underground".

Rita Coolidge, Inside The Fire, 1984, AM Holland, AMLX 65003

A typical 80ies downmarket product produced by Tom Dowd.
To much synthesizers, dull songs and la la la melodies.
You listen to this shallow one without participation of heart & soul.
Inside the fire? But no fire inside....

listening to record 1 - A Quick One.

2004 stereo reissue on 180gr vinyl. Produced by Kit Lambert in Pye Studios.
Not noted on red label is track B5: "Happy Jack". The original US issue included 6 tracks in true stereo. The rest were in reprocessed fake stereo and included "Happy Jack" instead of "Heatwave".
Listen to Pete's first rock opera B4 "A quick one" singing "cello-cello-cello-cello....." in the intro of "You are forgiven" because Kit Lambert couldn't afford any cello players. Because it had to be a quick one......

The Who, BBC Sessions, 2000, Polydor EU, 547 727-1

Double album on 180gr vinyl. Live at the BBC.
Listen to track C5 "A quick one": also on this version, recorded at De Lane Lea Studios, they had to sing the cello parts by themselves.
Also at the Beeb the cello players avoided to play together with four chaotic rock musicians who mostly destroyed their instruments.
Listen to the powerful version of "The seeker" track D1.
This one is unavoidable for Who fans of My Generation, shakin' all over anyway, anyhow, anywhere....
    Long live rock!

Nancy Griffith, One Fair Summer Evening, 1988, MCA Germany, 256 123-1

(Once again) comparing vinyl and CD.
Mastered by Glenn Meadows at Masterfonics using the JVC Digital Audio Mastering System.
Concentrating on the voice of Nancy: No chance for this CD.
The vinyl sound of the voice is far more warmer and the dynamics are much more extensive.
Recorded live August 19th and 20th, 1988, at Anderson Fair, Houston, Texas.

Nancy Griffith, Little Love Affairs, 1988, MCA Germany, 255 391-1

Bela Fleck banjo, John Jarvis keyboards, Rick Marotta, drums.
Listen to John Stewart singing duet and playing lead guitar on track B5 "Sweet dreams will come". Beautiful.
Look at front cover: Lp's of John Stewart and Everly Brothers are shown on the window sill!
