Golden Earring, Prisoner Of The Night, 1980, Polydor Germany, 2344 161

In the 80ies, "The Who" practically didn't exist anymore, but "Golden Earring" still functioned as a band of musicians with emphasis and rocknroll attitude: listen to the "Who"-alike synthesizer on track B4 "Going crazy again"! They still are rocking together.......
In US this LP was titled "Long blond animal". Anybody has an explanation, why they changed the title?

Great Flying-V Gibson guitar work by German Michael Schenker, younger brother of Scorpions guitarist Rudolf Schenker.

Some (important?) differences: the original 1979 German Chrysalis issue had a totally different track listing: The concert begins with "Natural Thing". 2 songs (added at the start of 2008 Back In Black label reissue) are missing: "Cherry" / "Hot and ready". 2 tracks actually are not live but studio recordings: B1/B2 "Mother Mary"/"This Kid's". Crowd noise was added. Well made live fake, as reported by Producer Ron Nevison on 2008 reissue inner foldcover liner notes. Apropos: very interesting liner notes! Listen also to Thin Lizzy's "Southbound" on "Live and dangerous", which in fact was a soundcheck recording!
Listen to track C1 "Lights out" as Phil Mogg sings at 2:40 "Lights out Chicago!!!" which is followed by audience roar.

One of the greatest live rock albums of all time, isn't it?

Still fascinating: this Hendrix-alike voice after 37 years....

    (1968, Warner Bros) WLP, -1B/-1B

first picture is recycled. debut record, produced by Felix Pappalardi for this Toronto rock band named after a Toronto neighborhood. a lot to like here - nice textured guitar, piano, bass, and sitar on some tracks. These guys were brought together by Bernie Finkelstein who later founded True North records.

Wintergarden, The Land Of Milk And Honey, 1980, Harvest Germany, 064-46 131

Great fresh Kraut-rock tunes from Germany. Early 80ies. Famous progressive Harvest label. Fine guitar work by Wolfgang Biersch.
Listen to 10'22" A4 "Swan Song" with witty Pink Floyd reminiscences. Rich in variety. Hand made. One of the last great Kraut-rock albums before the synthesizers took over.
    Underrated and forgotten gem.
    Forgotten? Who remembers this one?

He is a genious of simple but pure hand made music. A Jack of all trades. Witty! Haindling is Hans Jürgen Buchner.
His tunes go right to your heart. Of sure!

I heard about the snow earlier this week in Luzern from my sister. It looks like you are back to nice spring weather now.

A Shel Talmy production. 2LP. Originally released by Transatlantic Records. Cover art by Peter Blake, who had created the cover art for "Sgt. Peppers Heart Club Band".
Sides 1 and 2 recorded live at Royal Festival Hall, London, 29 June 1968.
Sides 3 and 4 recorded at IBC Studios London, August 1968.
A simple but powerful track: A6 "Goodbye pork-pie hat. John Renbourn and Bert Jansch duet using Charles Mingus' tribute to Lester Young as a theme. Great! Listen also to Joni Mitchell's version.
Track D2 "I've got a feeling" in fact is Miles Davis' "All Blues".
Bert Jansch "I'm only in it for the beer"........Remember Frank Zappa: "I'm only in it for the money".......
