Another great cover from Hipgnosis and one of the best live albums I have heard: UFO Live double album. As a long time crew member of Scorpions I know Michael well. His guitar playing is best when he is playing live.

Ron Carter - Anything Goes
(1975, Kudu) VAN GELDER in the deadwax
The instrumental jazz funk here is bordering on smooth like a lot of jazz in the 70s and 80s. Lots of CTI regulars including Eric Gale, Steve Gadd, Hubert Laws, Phil Woods, Mike Brecker, Randy Brecker. Ron Carter's bass playing shines above the smooth jazz arrangements and makes it worth the listen.

Listen to Adderley's "Jive Samba" A5 and McDuff's "Rock Candy" B2. Listen loud. What great sound!

After listening 3x to this English 80ies reissue: it's a cool muddy sound that works wonders.
Tony McPhee is a genius on the axe.
Engineered by Martin Birch at De Lane Lea Studios, London (-> Deep Purple, "Hard lovin' man" credits "for Martin Birch - catalyst"). Good dynamics.
So let's turn it and listen once again.

Thanks to Bruno (Vinyl-Brocki Schaffhausen) for this one.
Swiss pressing of superb quality (i didn't know then about these fantastic dynamics).
40 years since this live recording from the Volkshaus, Zürich.
