Ian Gomm, What A Blow, 1980, Ariola Germany, 202 230-320

    What a blow-what a guitar!
Ian Gomm plays the famous 62' Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman with Bigsby and 2 TV Jones pickups.
With a twang from Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Last week. Out of the "Grabbelkiste" in front of a vinyl record secondhand shop. 4 Euro.

    Nite City, Same, 1977, 20th Century Germany, 6370 258

Listen to Ray Manzarek's group without any prejudice. This album had no chance in 1977. No Morrison, no Krieger. No chance for Noah James from the start. But it's one of the underrated LP's. Lionhearted riders on the storm. A superb production by Ray Manzarek.
So listen to A4 "Angel w/no freedom": Once we were young, having so much fun, running wild.....

Michael Nesmith, Infinite Rider On The Big Dogma, 1979, Metronome Germany, 0060.234

Not typical for MN. Somewhat uninspired. Needs getting used to. For his fans only? At least B3 "Light" is interesting. Let's try to listen to this one later once again without prejudice.
I bought this one in thrift store because of Al Perkins, lead guitar and slide guitar.

Very good German pressing with power bass and clear drum sounds.

What's the Quintessenz of Phil Lesh's stories? Smokin'? Smokin' what? Too much chemistry? He still is on the road these days (why does he?) .....

He goes into a lot of detail on their sound system - although they didn't develop the wall of sound until '74, they did bring their own equipment for the tour and trucked it across the continent. He also talks about side trips to explore the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

It sounds like they were always well supplied with high quality psychedelics including those funny cigarettes (now legal for adult recreational use in the West coast US states including Washington state - yes!!!)

He is kind of a music nerd and by his own admission did not have much of a life outside of the Dead. So I'm not surprised that he keeps going. It's curious how little time he spends talking about his personal relationships or the family life of other band members, but I'm not done with reading his memoir
