After Widget mentioned Meshell Ndegeocello on another thread, I ordered one of her CD's--Peace Beyond Passion. This is really quite good. Interesting, complex, layered, nice wide range sonic textures, depths and colors, thoughtful lyrics. Bass played as a melodic and articulating instrument as well as setting foundations. Very nice. Thanks, Widget.

    Ian Wallace has Died

Didn't quite know where else to put this,

but this thread seems to draw lots of folks with eclectic tastes ...
and I know we've talked about early King Crimson stuff here ..

    Obituary: Ian Wallace Drummer

Ian Wallace, 60, a journeyman drummer who toured with Bob Dylan, Don Henley and Bonnie Raitt and recorded with Stevie Nicks, Ry Cooder and others, died Feb. 22 at UCLA Medical Center of complications from esophageal cancer.
Born in Bury, England, Mr. Wallace began playing in rock bands in the 1960s and earned a reputation for his eclectic range. He provided beats for prominent musicians in a variety of genres. They included Crosby, Stills & Nash, Stevie Nicks, Roy Orbison, Traveling Wilburys, Brian Eno and Jackson Browne.
He also played with several jazz bands and founded the Crimson Jazz Trio.

Strange Mood lately - in between the John Cale stuff (Guts!) and everything thats going on I've been in a mood for Cash - played some of the collections like The man in Black and Personal File - plus the 5 American Records releases (sonically I mostly like the first two best, but there is a lot of heart in all of his final works.

    and -
Highwayman - what a great record - I dismissed country too long ago (my Dad listened to the schlock stuff) - but this stuff is very fine!
