Smile Oblivion Express: A Better Land

Because of something I was doing here:

    http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...8&postcount=14

I pulled out Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, A Better Land to make some speaker-to-speaker comparisons. I enjoyed listening so much I kept the disc out and listened to it two more times after the comparison was done.

For some, it's an acquired taste, but I loved this album from the first note to the last when I put it on the turntable in 1971.

Delicate percussion, blended harmonies, complex rhythms, slow songs, fast songs, traditional songs, eclectic songs, keyboards, a variety of guitars, there's a lot going on here. Even the seemingly simple songs are deeper than you first think.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I'll drink the full pot, thank you.

Hey Dome -- It's good to see another Oblivion Express fan out there. I've been hooked on the stuff since their first album in 1970. I replaced them all on CD and in the case of the Live stuff, burned them onto CD from the records since the CDs are almost impossible to get or hugely expensive (I take that back, i just checked Amazon.com and they are available). If you haven't heard it, you might want to check out his 1999 CD, Voices of Other Times (there is a 2006 digital remaster of this). His kids make up a good part of the band on this. Savannah Auger's vocals are a real pleasure on my JBLs and Brian continues to make music that is new and unpredictable.

    Joe Bonamassa

Joe Bonamassa, "Had To Cry Today." Hot young bluesman! Does a great cover of the title track, an old Steve Winwood (Blind Faith) song. "Reconsider Baby" is also a real gem!

A great climax to an outstanding program of jazz from the South African trumpeter." musicdirect

I know I know I've discovered it a bit late, perfect for what I'm doing right now - a lot of A/B'ing.

    Its great world music also.

New Age, but ... what a bottom!

This album cover some of his more popular melodies.
Hilary played custom electric harp - and on this album he is accompanied by
a guitarist, Bass, irish flute and 3 vocalists.

I have a couple of his other CDs but this one has a much broader spectrum - a real workout for my 15s!

The music is pretty - new age, but ... what a bottom! Fat!

A friend played a bit for me and I bought it some time ago... it is a wild trip. The sound is excellent, especially for a live album, and the music is compelling.

I had no idea that it was discovered by "those audiophiles".

I like soundtrack albums. Everyone thought this was Frank Sinatra , but really was Mat Monro.

She wasn't Russian either , former Miss Italy..
