A Good Start to the Holiday Weekend...

This afternoon I became the proud parent of a pair of bouncing baby buttcheeks, model 4430, needless to say - I'm grinning ear to ear! Mother isn't pleased..."What, more JBL's?!" Just a post-partum thing, I suppose...

So, I will be doing a search far and wide throughout the forum to find out more about these cute little fellas, but members, please feel free to fill me in with your usual wit (Bo), wisdom and candor, regarding history, set-up, mods, etc.

It's going to be a happy Canada Day here tomorrow, I hope the rest of the Canucks here in JBL-land do too. And, of course, an early happy July 4th to all of you to the south.

Have fun they are nice horns. They image great and are very smooth. How you gonna use them?? You doing a 4430/4435 or are you gonna but a 10" mid in there??? I use mine with 2123's and they sound nice. You going active?? If you are you can grab the compensation out of the 4430/4435 networks and charge couple it for next to nothing. Only 2 caps that way or go with a single Hovland. With any luck I will get my laminate this week so I can finish my cabinets and load my drivers in my 4344 clones.

    Happy Canada day!

Thanks, Rob. I am not sure what I'll be doing in terms of a final arrangement. I am open to ideas. For now I have the construction of a knock-off of the bass department of the 4355 w/2235's keeping me busy!

Plus, I'm still fiddling around with the S-22's..time is a valuable commodity around here these days.....

The 4430's don't like much toe-in, do they?

I'm just a tad confused; you have just the HF horn for a 4430, or you acquired a pair of 4430's? If a pair, did you get the walnut ones that were on ebay in Toronto?

The 4430's veneer is in pretty good shape, but is really dried out, I'd like to rejuvinate them somehow, I guess good old Tung oil is best. Or, does anyone have a better idea?

    refinish

I like using Watcos Danish Oil, it penetrates a little better and I think it takes multiple coats a little bette. Although the Tung Oil would be better for water resistance done the road (again from my experience, I am not an expert on this stuff). Enjoy.
