A pal used both ferrite and neo 10" B&C woofers and they sounded very "Altecish" to me; excellent midrange and upper bass. I don't know the exact models used though and they probably have too low a Q to work well as OB speakers; generally a sensitive speaker is not gonna be suited.

When I was young I played and I listened many ALTEC DUPLEX 8 inch and 12 inch

Because my father was director of RCA Victor official ALTEC distributor in Canada in the 80's

I think the secret of ALTEC sound is thinness and rigidity of the paper cone and the B&C speaker doesn't have this specification but I'll try.

    THANKS for your answer

    Other choice ???

Nick, take a look at the Great Plains Audio products for new...that being said, they also can rebuild restore vintage Altec products if, for example, you particularly admire something ie. 515b etc....

    CIARE CH250 fullrange

    Hi !

Finally I've find very good specification speaker CIARE CH250 but the problem is to found distributor or reseller in North America.
Because this driver is at cheap price about 50$ but it's on Europe the shipping price to Canada is probably very expensive $$$$

If anybody in Canada or USA have 2 new or used CH250 for sale (in good condition) send me PM

    THANKS !

    Nick

When I was younger, I couldnt afford altecs, so I looked else where. With all my money wasted, never could I find speakers that could emulate that altec sound... I dont think that any company can reproduce that today. (not because they cant, but they just dont)

If you wanted new, GPA has alot of new speakers built to altec spec. Probably your only source of new "altec" sound.

If you have some spare coin and are looking in the coaxial area, try the GPA model 604-8h-II. This model has the larger horn, which I personally like better than the smaller horn.
