    4343

Hello everyone! Last weekend I got a set of 4343 monitors at a yard sale. They are in rough shape. I want to do most of the repairs myself, but I know I can't recone the speakers myself, So I'm in Tampa Bay area and need a very good place to have the 2121's and 2231a's reconed. Any info? Thanks.

If anyone would like to look and give some input you can see them at flickr link http://www.flickr.com/photos/juxtapo...7622678260058/

Also this is the first speaker repair project I will have ever tried.

Welcome aboard, you have picked the best place possible to get the maximum amount of help and information.

Damn, I wish the yard sales around me had JBL's.

Mids are hurting for sure. Amazing what some people do to speakers!

    Read and heed.

Thanks Yank!, The set came from a church from what the person I bought them from said they had them for years during which time his kids used them mostly as seen in the condition they are in. I think you are saying I should post in the DIY forum. I'm looking forward to working on them. The crack on the one speaker board tells me that it went over, face down at one time..

    Howdy, Juxtaposed,

Welcome to LH, and congrats on a very nice deal on some vintage JBL's!! Well done! If you are willing to put in the time, and a little bit of coin, you can make those 4343's almost as nice as new. I think you will love them, once you get them back up and running. Take care, and God Bless!

You may want to send a PM to member GordonW. He does speaker repair and is very experienced. I believe he is in Georgia. Maybe he can get you in the right direction. Great find by the way. Good luck with what will be a worth while project.

    Nice score...I like the 4343's.
Nothing there looks too tricky to fix.
I have a pair of reconed 2121's I'd sell you pretty cheap...cheaper than you can cone yours for anyway.

    Speaker Exchange

Speaker Exchange in Tampa can take care of the recone work. I get a JBL driver redone every 5-10 years with no problems.

May we ask what the yard sale bargain cost you?

    Crossover....I think 3143 is correct..

Veneer - Go to Craftsman Supply on Busch Blvd near 56th. Lots of veneer and supplies.

Hardware - PartsExpress.com has a ton of hardware though most of it will not match the JBL stuff in quality. If you can come up with a part #, you can try JBLProService.com

Wow! Those have seen a tough life... glad they have fallen into good hands.

I'd be most concerned about the cracked baffle. Hopefully you can repair it from the inside and touch up the outside. If not, you can always replace it. Based on the visual appearance, I would certainly recone all 8 drivers.

Take your time, do it right and you will surely be rewarded.

$10. I didn't have any money on me and I asked if they could hold them till I came back. The yard sale person said, We'll load them in your truck and just drop the money off later. Nice people.. Trusting.
