    L-166 Fried Lpad... Questions

I just picked up a pair of L-166's and after tracing down a non-functioning mid - it turns out the mid is good but the lpad for the Presence Nob is literally fried on the inside. My question, before sticking a replacement in there, is why or what could cause it to short like that, and what else should I check?

And also, where can I find a suitable replacement?

    Thanks.

A voltage was applied to the input terminals that should not have been...500 watts from a big power amp...hey let's plug it into a wall outlet and listen to 60 Hz hum...

Check the values from contact to contact on the other lpad and replace with a similar 8 ohm model.
