    Controller

    Hello,

By the way. An HiFish AC Audio-Controller
is a cheap and very good thing to measure
    your speaker system.

Interesting... have you used one? Many multi function tools are not very convenient to use. How well does this fish work?

    Hi Guido,

My first question would be is it convenient or a pain in the butt to use?

Second, I didn't notice it's published accuracy rating. How accurate is it supposed to be?

Overall how do you like it?

First of all it is convenient because it is integrated. This mean that everything is in ONE cabinet. No mike cables, no referencing trouble for different mikes etc.

The handling is not perfect but after 3 or 4 measuring sessions you'll get it.

You press a button, the test cd starts the measurement last appr. 30 sec and then you download the response to the computer.
Disadvantage is that the unit can only store one response curve for each, left and right speaker. Then you have to download before the next measurement.

Accuracy is +/- 1,0 dB according to IEC-651

The problem I come-up with is, you have no way of sampling the reference signal post the pre-amp. This is very important to understand what the output of the reference (CD) is, BEFORE the EQ, amp, etc. It seems (without being able to fully comprehend the website...) this HiFish measures the acoustic response against the idealized reference signal (i.e., without knowing the "coloration" added by the pre-amp).

As an example, SmaartLIVE warns against just that approach. Instead, use SmaartLIVE Pink Noise generator (or whatever source you choose), and input that to the pre-amp. SmaartLIVE instructs you split the pre-amp output to:

    1) back into SmaartLIVE, and
    2) into the EQ, amp, etc.

    1) = reference signal
    2) = measured signal

That way, you are truly measuring the things you can control (EQ, Lpads, etc.).

    Bo.....

This little toy is not a prof tool!

It gives you the opportunity to measure YOUR system.
This system content the whole chain. Therefore you measure the whole chain.

Anyway it do help me a lot.
