    Mcintosh 754

Anyone here ever have any personal experience with these? Not what you have heard or read on the net please.

    752/754

nope. I just remember a lot of discussion about the lack of autoformers
(in the audio press) when they came out. Could be a good thing, depending
    on one's needs.

Thanks Grumpy. I can find very little about it. I'm going to go ahead and get it. Thanks!

I had both the 752 and 754 in the small bedroom system with some Jubals. Really cool look, but definitely a different sound without the Autoformers. Which of course many say "color" the sound. Also needs to be covered, quite the dust magnet. Let me know what you think!

Well its not a 754 (so I guess I couldn't make a first hand assessment) but I just got a Mac mc2200-vintage solid state 200wpc. So far so good. It doesn't strain at higher volume and generally sounds pretty good, open sound yet confident. I have to play with the input sensetivity switch (1.75 or 2.50) to find where I get the best performance.

I have it set up and I was really pissed at first because one channel was cutting out and just wasn't to impressed. I then reached back and turned both sensitivity knobs and it really sounded great. I went ahead and sprayed those knobs with some contact cleaner and I have had no issues since then. I kind of like it.

I still think the 754 is one of the neatest looking little non tube amps ever. Of course it's the sound that makes them keepers. What do you think of the looks?

Don, I'm sold on the sound and the punch it packs for a little light weight. Now.....which speakers to match it with?
