please help break me of this curse! NO MORE BIG SPEAKERS! PLEASE!!!

ok, so it started with the jbl 4333a's for 500...
Then I couldnt pass up some L200b's for a mere 200....
NOW I find myself with NO room and a friend wanting to give me some altec model 19's for 250!!!!!!

    WTF!?

I can't shake this big speaker curse!!!

at the same time.... which pair should I keep?

    decisions decisions..

I'm picking them up tomorrow.... think they;l fitt in my hatchback? (the 4333a's did)

143 lb's each whew!!! he says he has an amp he got with them from altec he says in 1977 as well with the 19's ... claims the amp is 800 watts .... (4 ohms?) Also has an altec EQ from the same purchase... claims to have paid 8000 for the 3 components new in 77.... Any truth to these tales?

I would say I need help ridding the cruse too but I fear I have fell in love with big ol speakers. I am in a small apartment over crowded with big speakers and consoles. I have a pair of altec carmels, altec 603B in a jensen cab, a trusonic, a 001 Jbl system I can't bare to part out, and 2 maggie external speakers. Of course there are smaller speakers too but I am having a sale sunday so must are headed out, to make room for more big speakers

Just build on some extra rooms or get a bigger house. No one here will condemn you for having too many big speakers.

    Preferred answer: All of 'em

Compromise answer: The ones that sound the best to you in your listening area, given your upstream components, and your musical preferences - regardless of value or what others may recommend.

Good luck with the new purchase!

The answer is obvious to me: 4333A.

Hi, my name is John and I'm a JBLahloic!

It's gets in to your blood, I have JBL in the living room, bed room, basement, upstairs, in my garage and in my car. I'm hooked, have been since age 18.

If you are serious about dealing with your big speaker addiction you will have to turn over control of your money to your girlfriend or wife. A bit drastic, but addiction requires serious intervention.

Then I'd have to recommend you going with five 4355's in 5.0. That'll fix you.

Ok just got back from checking out the altec's..... Turns out one of the speakers was left OUTSIDE!!! One of the woofers had a bad voice coil rub! the veneer was peeling and split on the edges like it was rained on!
The hoirn was full of mold!

I bought his 9440a power amp for 150 though! I told him I'd come back later for the speaks, but not sure if I want such a big project..... What do you guys think?

Create a wall of JBL L19s and call it a day.

For $250.00 I'd junk the cabinets and clean up the horn. Sell the horns and drivers, the crossovers and the one good woofer. Sell the damaged one as a frame only. You should be able to make $800.00 - $1K+.
