    Which Woofer with 4520?

    Hi,

I scanned the catalogs at the library section and noted that the recommended woofer is 2205.

May I know if I can get the 30 Hz extension as mentioned in the catalog if I use E140? Or must I use the 2226?

    All advice welcome.

JBL lists them also. The 140's sens. is rated from 500-2.5K
    The 2225/6 from 100hz up.
Check out the response JBL shows at 32 down 10db

    Thanks.

Actually what I meant to ask was which woofer would give me better low bass extension with the 4520?

Anybody had any experience with these?

    Thanks

    woof

I Have built hundreds of the singles and doubles.. The E140 was preferred for stage / loud PA use but the 2225 sounded better for playback.

NEITHER will give you an extension because the horn is too short for a full 32Hz load. The primary difference between the 140 and 2225 is the linearity. One is a sound producer ( colored ) and the other a REPRODUCER ( clean ).

The current woofer that I would recommend is the 2226H. The 2227 might work well but they are expensive and (now) scarce.

Do NOT USE any foam surround woofers unless you have one helluva HP filter in place.

I have the 4520 loaded with 2226H. The low end is the best I've ever heard, but they are too big for my room.

Thanks for the advice. Almost wanted to get 2235s with the 4520 because of the excellent specs of the 2235s, but they are foam surrounds.

So I'm better off with the 2226Hs. Got it.

    Cheers.

2205 has paper dust cap. I used a pair of 2520s with 2226s in them.

To continue in the same direction, I too want to build (again) a set of 4520s.
I have some E140 baskets, should I use them reconed as E140 or as 2225?

I KNOW they won't sound the same, don't flame me! It's because I know this that I'm wondering, will I have more fidelity with the E140 reconed as 2225? Will I get more low end and punch with the stock E140?

    What do you think?

    itty bitty

Due to the inherent non linearity of the "scoop" response, Whatever recone kit that is available and/or affordable would be fine. I do suggest finding some 2226 speakers because the additional power handling and vented coil means a LOT more possible output.
