4333 rework

Tried to search the site in case I had asked this before... (appears not).

Does anyone have pictures or assembly information for the
4331/4333... compression driver access panel?
(not the newer -A models, unless it happens to be the same
construction/attachment method).

I'm guessing that there may have been an integral driver 'cradle',
but I'm mostly interested in the access panel itself, and how it was
attached to the cabinet. I'd like the cabinet to remain fairly
original, if possible.

I have the bare carcass only... will take photos this evening.

I have two "aftermarket" 4330 cabinets (made to JBL specs) with removable backs. They will accomodate the "long horns." You can have those if you desire.

Are you going to mess around with that other pair of 4333 cabs? If so, that's wonderful! I can't remember if I promised this, or not, but if so, I apologize for not getting you the info sooner. I can remove one of the backs from our L300's, and send it down to you so you can copy it. Or, I can take some digital photos and send those along to you, whichever you prefer. I JUST posted something to Robert about those 4333 cabs you sent my way, and one thing I mentioned was having to make an access door!! Cool that you're thinking about that, too! Let me know what you'd like, and I'll get right on it. If you want me to send, or bring, the access door for you, I can hook up our 4411's, just for fun, and listen to those until I replace the door on the L300's. Talk to you soon, and God Bless!

P.S. I think I did try the L300 door on the 4333 cabs, but can't remember. I'll do it again, just to see check the fit, and will let you know how it goes.

P.P.S. You are right, the access doors do have a driver cradle affixed to them.

I'll remove the doors, and snap some photos, sometime this week, then email them to you. Will that work OK for you? I will also try the fit of the L300's JBL-made access door, on those old 4333's you sent my way, and let you know about the fit. Hey, Guys,

Thanks for the shout. I will most certainly post the photos here, just for anyone who might be interested in seeing how those doors are made. They are a tight fit, I'll tell you that, and very firmly hold the backs of those 2420 drivers when in place. Take care, and God Bless!

Cabinets are marked 4503-3, and have been painted black (at least once)
over the original utility gray.

Re: access plate for mid driver -

6 through holes, 2 each side, one center top, one center bottom.

Top/bottom fasteners in cabinet were T-nuts.

Slots are cut out in cabinet back wall braces. I'm assuming they held some other
sort of captive hardware, threaded plates to fit the slots (would tend not to rotate),
unusually shallow T-nuts, part of the access plate that slid into the slots once
in place, or ... am I thinking too hard ?

I've sent you the photos that I took of the access door from my L300's. It fits the 4333 cabinets you gave me, perfectly. When you get back to me, and let me know which photos might work for inclusion here at LH, I'll post those right away. Hope they help you a bit, and if you need better measurements, I can take them with a digital caliper, or meet you for some barbeque lunch, one of these days, and bring the door for you to measure as needed. I'll suggest a few of the photos. The panel/support itself should be
fairly straightforward, especially after seeing your pics.

The info I'm missing is what was used to attach
the four side screws in the areas I've circled in red.

Evening, Grumpy,

I've sent you further photos of the L300's, which shows how the braces have been notched out to fit small T-nuts. The access doors have holes for six machine screws, and they all fit into small T-nuts inside the cabinet. Those 4333 cabs I got from you are setup similarly, but the braces are different. Still, they are notched out, just in a different manner. Let me know if you need more photos, and I'll get on it. Take care, and God Bless!

I can see where the much larger L300 brace notches could accommodate T-nuts.
The 4333 notches are -much- less deep, as you know.

Saeman's friend removed nearly all of the hardware bits, and if there were
T-nuts in there, they would have been very difficult to remove, and it appears
to me that they would have to be special low-profile types... maybe not...
I'll just get some and try 'em out for size.

I can come up with something that will work, I was just hoping someone
in the forum would know the stock method used, or had some intact/stock
JBL 4333's they could take a peek at.
