What is the "thing" under the speakers and what is the purpose of that?
    Thanks.

Does it have a downward facing woof?

Just reminded me of the dome of the back panel on those Aquarius Protoypes last week ...

    Yes.

Does it need the dome down there? I doubt it.

Saw the thread and then had to check out the site. Seems they are using field coil woofers in their designs.

For one, the field coil is an electromagnet, so there is no alnico material to get demagnetized,
but conversely, you do need an external power supply for the coil.

I saw and heard them in Detroit a few months back...

The (2) 15" drivers are field coil versions of the E-145 and the MF driver is a field coil version of the 375. I'm not sure what the tweeter was.

It was set up in a large room in the hotel (AK Detroit fest) and I was not able to really critique them as the music was played much louder than I found comfortable to be around, and the music played was unknown to me, so I had no reference point to base a opinion on.

Only thing I could say about them is that they played loud and reminded me more of a pro-sound system than home hifi due to the environment and the operators of the system. They used "cyclotron" type tube amps (sp?) to run them with.

It might have sounded good with a better setup and operator to run them.

    Regards, Ron
