Anyone try the Ortofon 2M Series cartriages?
Anyone try the Ortofon 2M Series cartriages?
Thanks for the info guys. It always helps to hear from experienced users.
I'll continue my research...
Ok, so I've essentially gone a completely different route from buying a new turntable and have turned to a vintage (wood w/ glass platter) Rega Planar 2.
I intend to use it a decent chassis for my starting point and build it up how I like it...
I have an RB300 tonearm, but am a little lost on the cartridge... I like Grados, but I've heard complaints that they hum on Rega's.
Any thoughts?
Edit: Thanks guys for all the replies so far...
interesting arm
Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles
That Dynavector arm requires a lot of real estate on a TT , some of those big Denon plinths are OK and Luxman that was meant for a 12" arm.
I don't think there is much chance grafting that on to a Rega.
As it happens the RB 300 arm will work very well indeed with the Denon DL160 cartridge , and no hum issues either.

You'd be hard pressed to get a new TT this well built for a grand ….

And this one ….. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Technics-S...item3cda274ce9
All kinds of mods if you're up to it . Tons of spare parts around for this and the 1200's .
I have 1200 with an external DIY PSU and love it .

The rap on 1200's are that they are DJ tables and not musical ones. But Chris has a SL-1200 mk1 which is similar but different from the mk2 and he gets great sounds from it through his L-100's.
I have 4 active TT's in the house. A Pioneer PL-530 with V-15T3 that gets most of the playtime*, an SL-Q3 Technics, a Denon DP-47F with DL-160 H.O.MC cart and the Denon DP-60L with V-15VXLM?
I had an ultra rare V-15P (P mount version) that sounded great, but I don't have any P-mount tables anymore. My last one was a SL-M2, but it got traded off for an Empire.
Under $1000 ? I'd investigate this one ==>> https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ele/4260947324.html
Technics SL-M1 Turntable, near mint - $300
Selling a very clean Technics SL-M1 direct drive manual turntable. This has auto-lift at record end. The motor is the same that is used in the Technics SL1200. It comes with a near new Ortofon 20H cartridge. This turntable uses the P-Mount cartridge system, no alignment necessary, just plug in your cartridge and you are good to go. I will include a spare Audio Technica P-mount cartridge. For an extra $100 I will include a brand new in the box Ortofon X-1 MCP cartridge, cost $175. I also have some other new P-Mount cartridges for sale.
Here is a list:
Grado MPS-1 Ellyptical stylus, new in box $60, (cost $125 new)
Audio Technica DR750, new in the box $60
Shure RXP3 new stylus $30
Audio Technica AT112EP new ellyptical stylus $50
Audio Technica DR350 low hours $30
Digitrac (Ortofon) 380NE Near new, $75
Dust cover has some hazing, but no deep scratches and no cracks or pieces missing. Wood veneer is perfect, no chips or stains.
Will consider trade for newer high quality pair of bookshelf speakers. (Please, no white van junk).
$300 with the Ortofon 20H and Audio Technica DR350 P-Mount cartridges
NOT MINE , THO I'D LIKE TO OWN IT.
* most of the playtime because it's back here in the mancave
