    JBL L100 Grill Cover Options

When was the brown grill cloth offered? Was this later production? Or was it available at the same time as the quadrex foam (post '71)

I believe the cloth came in a kit form from JBL after they stopped producing replacement Quadrex foam, sometime in the late 70s/early80s. I looked into these at one time for my 4 L100s but never bought them as I felt they changed the appearance/character of the speaker too much.

    L100 Grill Cloth

I was thinking along the same lines. Not that I need a 3rd pair, but a local pair popped up at a decent price in so called mint condition so I'm going to grab them and put them away. They have the brown cloth.

Was the deteriorating foam more in character of the L-100 for you?

I wasn't too happy about the situation, but to me, the JBL replacement grille cloth was the only really good option we had at the time.

Of course, all these years later, we have the Foamtrends options.

You know, L100S look awfully good WITHOUT those grills, too...which is how I enjoyed them for awhile (sans small kids or animals). They were also stored away for a number of years so I was able to hold out for the "good stuff".

Mine were "in continual use" and I was so unhappy when they started deteriorating. I bought my cloth replacements directly from JBL and was so glad to get them!

I have been seriously considering going back to the foams, though.

For me, the biggest part of the L100 experience is looking at those quadrex grilles!

I absolutely had to go with Bart's foam replacements

    This?

    Bad color in pic

The blue is really washed out in the pic.

Bart as we all know, has the JBL blue down pat.

I think most would agree that the quadrex grilles are part of the real L-100 experience, but the JBL replacement grille cloth inserts look a lot better than the first picture you have posted.
