L-Rad acoustic defense sys.- by Harmon???

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/SPORT/07/06/...tes/index.html

This article describes an acoustic device named L-Rad that is being used by ship captains to fend off potential pirates. Apparently, the device produces an ultra high SPL burst that is soo loud it deters suspect captors.

When I read this, I wondered if the Harmon companies had any role in its development.

One of the defense systems ProForm offers is called L-RAD -- a long-range acoustic device so deafeningly loud that when it is directed at attackers, it can force them to retreat.

I’m for one a little curious as to what the frequency is and the SPL db of that frequency?

You do realize that the best defence against this is ear plugs and ear defenders so this product is only useful for short moment or the pyrites might also arm themselves with this device?

    Edit

Well since I was curious like the cat is I had a look around and found an answer!

    http://science.howstuffworks.com/lrad.htm

One thing that isn’t mentioned in the link is the range of the LRAD is it 151db at 1 metre or what? Because I won’t go even near to anything over 130db as that is the limit. So LRAD exceeds that limit but at what range?

Now this video makes a clearer understanding as the inventor demonstrates it’s potential.

LRAD - Discovery Channel "Future Weapons"

But if its shot at with laser guidance and disarmed from sending out high bursts of ultra sonic directional sound what use would it be then? Also is it safe from EMP?

Also the best intensions are always the worst intensions making sound into an evil weapon for the evil US government what does that say, huh. The more things change the more they stay the same.

I like the smaller version now that would be useful for direction high frequencies within our hearing auditory range for our home Hi-Fi/cinema systems rather than being used for negative military evil purposes.

Also what is the underwater version LFA? And that is such an evil device that it kills marine life! So the US Navy is the evils for using such a device/weapon so they can talk to their scum government!

These weapons of mass acoustically destruction should be destroyed because who knows if this LRAD might be killing birds or animals???

Can LRAD be used by an assassin buy playing Dez O’Conner to kill its targets with over 2 hours worth of pain killing music!?

If police are now using this powerful weapon, I assume we will have experiences similar to the stun guns.

At 151 DB, that would surely inflict permanent physical damage to human and non-human hearing.
