    When is a 1/4" - 1/2" 2440 [or 2441,5,6] spacer needed?

Just wondering if the extension of the throat the short 1/4"- 1/2" amount helps or hinders any part of the frequency range, and when the spacer may be needed? Are there particular horns that hit the driver body and spacer needed to mount it? Or are there other reasons for it?

    thanx,
    -steve

In the likely event the '?' means "what the heck are you talking about" and not "I don't know", I mean one of these (it should have occurred to me to post a pick sooner):

(not my photo but the seller's; photo location may expire soon too)

I've seen this item come and go a few times with noone bid on it. Whoever bid against me, at least say "thank you" to me for pointing it out to you.
